Okra, also known as ladies' fingers or ochro, is a flowering plant in the mallow family. It is valued for its edible green seed pods. This variety was actually a gift from a bird that dropped the seed in my garden 4 years ago. Since then, I’ve simply been scattering the seeds around the yard and letting them do their own thing. They’re one of my favorite flowers. The pollinators also love them. Did you know that okra is related to hibiscus and cotton? It is among the most heat- and drought-tolerant vegetable species in the world and will tolerate soils with heavy clay and intermittent moisture. Pods are cooked, pickled, eaten raw, or included in salads. Okra may be used in developing countries to mitigate malnutrition and alleviate food insecurity. #growninhaiti #okra #lasdyfingers #flower #mallow #haiti #ayiti #foodforest #donothingmethod #nogmos #nopesticides #noherbicides #foodsecurity #organic #droughttolerant https://www.instagram.com/p/Bp-eNyTjXwH/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=o8f2mqmhri8v
