There's something sincere about @shazammovie, despite the glossy blockbuster sheen and gag-plenty comedic tone. It has an identity unlike other recent movies from @dccomics and seems unbothered about making sure that it finds it's place within that universe, even though there are numerous references that put it there. It's that honesty that allows @zacharylevi’s performance to feel genuine, as he channels fourteen-year-old foster kid #BillyBatson into a grown-up superhero. It's reminiscent of @tomhanks' classic turn in #Big and that's a huge compliment. It's funny without feeling the need to be crass, is action-packed without feeling over-the-top and ups the stakes as the film progresses, putting various characters in peril that it's difficult to see them getting out of. The set up of various plot points have pay offs that really feel earned, and that's part of what makes this film so enjoyable.
