The Drum Fill of the Week was created by my great student Oliver. This is the Chorus section of the Drum Set Jam 6. Oliver came up with a cool beat with a challenging bass pattern in the second measure. The fill is really awesome with 32nd notes on beats three and four. Awesome job Oliver! The Drum Fill of the Week was created by my awesome student Oliver. This is the same section of the song (Verse) that Tanner came up with the cool tom groove that I posted last week. Oliver created a great beat, with a slight swing feel and a cool bass pattern in the second measure. It is really interesting seeing how different both grooves are for the same song. For the drum fill this week, we finished the last section of the song. The fill is four 16th notes on beat one and two eight notes on beat two. For beats three and four, you play four eighth notes in unison on the snare drum and floor tom. My student Eric does a great job demonstrating the fill this week. For the drum fill this week, with some of my more advanced students, we started a new song. This is the Chorus of the song. The drum beat is pretty challenging with lots of grace notes. It is inspired by the great James Brown drummers. The drum fill is two groups of 5 and a group of three. The sticking is RllRL - RllRL - RLR. With some of my students we have been studying the great drumming of Zigaboo Modeliste. This week we learned the beat from the song Look Ka Py Py. Zigaboo has so many amazing grooves that he created. This is a classic groove that is challenging to get the right feel.
