My opinion about Harry Potter Ships (1/2)

Hinny (Harry Potter/Ginny Weasley): NO. Just NO. Please their romance was so forced and there was no chemistry between them in the movie (and I watched the movies before reading the books... so yeah, it affected my perception about them) 👎

Romione (Ron Weasley/Hermione Granger): In the books they were a better couple- but in the movie their development was almost null- so no thanks. 😬

Harmione (Harry Potter/Hermione Granger): "They're just friends". Still a better ship than Hinny/Romione tho. Their interactions were far more beautiful than any other ship involving Harry or Hermione. 🙌

Ronarry (Ron Weasley/Harry Potter): If I was Harry and I had to chose a Weasley to date with- I would choose Ron. Not saying anything else. 🧡🤎

Dron (Draco Malfoy/Ron Weasley): Enemies to lovers. Enemies to lovers. Enemies to- (Besides, their families don't like each other so they would be Romeo/Juliet coded) 💞

Drarry (Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter): I'm a fan of Slytherin/Gryffindor pairings, and a fan of rivals to lovers so- I LOVE DRARRY SO MUCH. 😍😍😍😍

Dramione (Draco Malfoy/Hermione Granger): It's literally like a straight version of Drarry- SO I'M IN! 💖

Huna (Harry Potter/Luna Lovegood): I tell you, I ship them more than I ship Romione/Hinny. Although I have never read a fic of them, they had cute moments. ☺️

Linny (Ginny Weasley/Luna Lovegood): Luna is a Ravenclaw. Ginny is a Gryffindor. Ravenclaw is Blue. Gryffindor is Red. I LOVE RED-BLUE PAIRINGS. 💖💖

Pansmione (Pansy Parkinson/Hermione Granger) & Blaron (Blaise Zabini/Ron Weasley): Another Slytherin/Gryffindor pairing? And another enemies-to-lovers? And also lesbian/gay? Hell YES. 💞💞💞💞

Hedric (Cedric Diggory/Harry Potter): Their relationship in the fourth movie/book was cute and pure and I will never forgive them for killing Cedric. He was a good friend to Harry and he could have been more than that :(

Hansy (Harry Potter/Pansy Parkinson): It's like Drarry but the love interest is a girl instead of a boy. So it's a yes for me.

Nuna (Neville Longbottom/Luna Lovegood): You know for one moment I thought they would be canon and I shipped them-

Deamus (Dean Thomas/Seamus Finnigan): They belong together. I don't accept objections. 😆😆

Flintwood (Marcus Flint/Oliver Wood): Two captains, one from Gryffindor and the other from Slytherin, in a relationship? Yes.

Blamione (Blaise Zabini/Hermione Granger) & Ronsy (Ron Wealey/Pansy Parkinson): They're like Pansmione and Blaron but with the love interest reversed so YES.

Ginmione (Ginny Weasley/Hermione Granger): Friends to lovers? Two Gryffindor? A sapphic ship? Perfect. ✨

Dinny (Dean Thomas/Ginny Weasley): They were canon but they're not my thing. I prefer Ginny with Hermione/Luna and Dean with Seamus.

Drastoria (Draco Malfoy/Astoria Greengrass): Not my thing neither but I guess they're good. 👌

Druna (Draco Malfoy/Luna Lovegood): I ship Draco with Harry/Ron/Hermione so it's a no for me. Besides I see them as besties. 😔

Chomione (Cho Chang/Hermione Granger): Never thought of it but it seems interesting. 👀

Fremione (Fred Weasley/Hermione Granger): It's not bad but If I were Hermione and I had to date a Weasley- I would choose Ginny. But they're not a bad ship ;)

Geormione (George Weasley/Hermione Granger): The same argument as the previous ship.

Lovander (Rolf Scamander/Luna Lovegood): They're okay but not my thing.

The cool breeze of the Hogwarts grounds swept across the lake, stirring the still water as the afternoon sun began to dip below the horizon. It was peaceful here, a hidden corner of the grounds that few students ventured to—except for Luna Lovegood. She had always found comfort in the solitude, in the quiet that let her thoughts drift as easily as the clouds.

But today, she wasn’t alone.

Draco Malfoy stood a few feet away, leaning against a tree with his arms crossed, his sharp features softened by the glow of the fading light. His presence here wasn’t by chance. He had followed her, not knowing what he expected to find, but unable to stay away any longer.

Luna, ever perceptive, seemed to sense his gaze even without turning around. She continued to stare out at the water, her long blonde hair flowing gently with the breeze, her expression calm, as if she were waiting for him to speak.

But Draco didn’t know where to start.

“You always come here,” he finally said, his voice low and hesitant. It wasn’t a question, just an observation. He had noticed her slipping away to this quiet spot more often than not, and for reasons he couldn’t quite explain, he had found himself drawn here too.

Luna tilted her head slightly, her lips curving into a small, knowing smile. “Yes. The moonlight is clearest from here,” she said dreamily, her voice soft as it carried on the wind. “It’s a good place to think.”

Draco frowned, his brow furrowing as he shifted uncomfortably. Luna had always been a mystery to him, her strange, ethereal presence something he could never quite understand. But lately, it was that very mystery that had begun to haunt him.

Luna finally turned to face him, her wide, silvery-blue eyes meeting his with that same serene curiosity she always seemed to carry. She didn’t say anything for a moment, just watched him, as if waiting for him to reveal whatever had brought him here.

“I don’t get you,” Draco admitted, his voice quieter now, almost frustrated. “I don’t understand why you’re never… angry.”

Luna blinked, her expression soft but thoughtful. “Why would I be angry?”

“Because—” He hesitated, running a hand through his blond hair, suddenly feeling exposed under her calm gaze. “Because of everything. People make fun of you, they treat you like you’re different, and you just… don’t care.”

Luna smiled, a small, gentle thing that made Draco’s chest tighten. “I’ve learned that people’s opinions of me don’t define who I am. And besides,” she added, her eyes twinkling with a soft light, “being different isn’t such a bad thing.”

Draco swallowed hard, his throat tight as he looked away from her. He had spent his entire life caring what people thought, letting their opinions shape him into the person he thought he had to be. It was why he had lashed out, why he had hidden behind arrogance and cruelty. But Luna… Luna never hid.

“Must be nice,” he muttered, more to himself than to her. “Not caring what people think.”

Luna’s gaze softened further as she watched him. She could see the weight he carried, the burden of expectations and the pain of regret that lingered behind his sharp gray eyes. She took a small step closer, her voice gentle when she spoke again.

“Is that why you’re here, Draco? To stop caring?”

Draco let out a breath, his shoulders slumping as he stared out at the water, his mind churning with thoughts he couldn’t quite organize. He had always prided himself on keeping people at arm’s length, on never letting anyone see beneath the surface. But Luna… she saw through him in a way that unsettled him and comforted him at the same time.

“No,” he said quietly, his voice rough around the edges. “I’m here because… I don’t know. I don’t know why I’m here.”

Luna stepped even closer, her soft footsteps barely making a sound as she moved to stand beside him. She didn’t press him, didn’t pry for answers he wasn’t ready to give. Instead, she simply stood there, her presence calming in the silence.

After a long pause, Draco spoke again, his voice barely above a whisper. “I just… wonder how it feels.”

Luna turned her head, her eyes filled with gentle curiosity. “How what feels?”

“To be loved by you.”

The words left his lips before he could stop them, and the moment they were out, Draco felt his heart hammer in his chest. He hadn’t meant to say it. He hadn’t even known he was thinking it. But now that it was out in the open, he couldn’t take it back.

Luna’s expression softened, her silvery-blue eyes studying him with a quiet intensity. There was no shock, no surprise, just the same calm understanding that had always been there. She tilted her head slightly, her soft voice breaking the silence.

“And why do you wonder that?”

Draco swallowed, feeling exposed in a way he never had before. He had spent his whole life guarded, closed off, and now, in front of her, he felt as if every wall he had ever built was crumbling. “Because…” He hesitated, his voice faltering. “Because you’re so… kind. You see the good in people, even when they don’t deserve it.”

Luna’s smile was gentle, her eyes filled with warmth as she gazed at him. “Everyone deserves kindness, Draco. Even when they don’t believe they do.”

Draco’s chest tightened at her words, the raw truth of them settling deep within him. He had never thought of himself as deserving of anything good—especially not after everything he had done, after everything he had been a part of. But standing here, with Luna looking at him like that… he couldn’t help but wish things could be different.

“I don’t deserve you,” he murmured, his voice filled with a quiet resignation.

Luna reached out then, her fingers brushing lightly against his arm, and the touch was so soft, so gentle, that Draco felt his breath catch. “That’s not for you to decide,” she said, her voice as calm as ever. “You don’t have to be perfect, Draco. You just have to be yourself.”

Draco’s eyes searched hers, his heart pounding in his chest as he tried to make sense of everything he was feeling. Luna’s words, her kindness, her unwavering acceptance—it was overwhelming, and yet, it was exactly what he had been longing for.

“How do you do it?” he asked, his voice rough with emotion. “How do you forgive people so easily? How do you keep seeing the good in everyone?”

Luna smiled again, her eyes twinkling with that same quiet wisdom. “Because love isn’t about being perfect. It’s about understanding that people make mistakes, and that those mistakes don’t define them. I choose to see the good, even when it’s hidden.”

Draco felt a lump rise in his throat, and for the first time in a long time, he felt something stir within him—hope. A small, fragile hope that maybe, just maybe, he could be someone worthy of that kind of love.

“Luna,” he whispered, his voice trembling as he looked into her eyes. “I don’t know how to do this. I don’t know how to… be better.”

Luna’s smile softened, and she stepped even closer, her hand now resting gently on his arm. “You don’t have to know all the answers right now,” she said softly. “You just have to be willing to try.”

Draco stared at her, his heart pounding, and for the first time in his life, he felt the walls around his heart begin to crumble. In Luna’s gaze, he saw something he had never thought he would find—acceptance, hope, and maybe even the beginnings of love.

He wasn’t perfect. He wasn’t sure he ever would be. But standing here, with Luna by his side, he realized that maybe he didn’t have to be.

Maybe, just maybe, being loved by someone like her would be enough to help him find his way.

Chapter 1

A train overflowing with voices...

She paid no attention to the noise or the chatter around her. Instead, she let herself be carried by the rattling rhythm of the train, allowing the rails to guide her toward the place that, from that day onward, would become her second home.

She sat in the corridor, right in the middle of everything.

Apparently, there was no room for her and her magazines in any of the compartments, though she thought reading was far nicer out in the open, with natural light pouring through the curtainless windows. The downside would come once night fell and the temperature dropped, forcing her to put on her robes. On the other hand, she would be the first to notice when the trolley witch came by with the sweets cart.

She had always managed perfectly well on her own, though she had to admit that solitude felt much kinder at home than it did in that corridor.

She had said goodbye to her father with a bright smile on her face and a heart full of excitement for the new adventure awaiting her, and she believed this first setback—not managing to find a proper seat on the train—was only that: a minor inconvenience that would never darken her journey.

Even so, she had made herself comfortable. She had found the perfect position in the corner beside the door connecting one carriage to the next. Her jacket hung from one of the window handles, her pink Spectrespecs perched on her nose. On one side rested her backpack, covered in keychains and charms collected from countless trips, making her wonder what new keepsakes she might gather at Hogwarts Castle and where she would place them. On the other side, pressed against the window, several magazines and a sketchbook lay scattered around her.

During the first hours of the trip, she had filled its pages with drawings of magical creatures which, according to her, wandered through the corridor unseen. Without the glasses she wore, they would have been almost impossible to spot.

Some students had been walking back and forth through the carriage, visiting friends in other compartments or heading to the toilets. She always saw little groups of people together, but nobody seemed to pay much attention to her presence.

By then, everyone had settled into the journey. The sun shone brightly despite the miserable weather they had left behind in London, and at least in that part of the train, everyone had found some way to pass the time.

She sat with her legs crossed to leave space for anyone passing by, though someone nearly stepped on her anyway the moment the carriage door flew open and a voice startled her out of her reading.

“Oi, watch where you’re going, girl!”

“Funny hearing that from you, considering I’m not the one moving,” she replied, finally lifting her eyes from the magazine to identify the owner of the polished black shoes that had just dragged across her favorite tights—the ones patterned with eyes in every color imaginable.

“You’re sitting in the middle of the corridor. How do you expect people not to walk into you?”

“You should look at the floor more often. These little creatures love crawling into people’s socks,” she said, pointing at an illustration on the page she was reading—a drawing of what looked like a winged centipede. “That’s why I usually wear tights.”

“And do you ever bother putting your brain on?” the boy snapped, staring at the magazine page with equal parts disgust and scrutiny.

“I can assure you that you’re wearing yours, because right now you’ve got several Wrackspurts floating around your head,” she answered, slipping off the oversized, vaguely hippie-looking glasses and completely ignoring the rudeness radiating from the silver-haired boy.

“Where the hell did you even come from?” he asked defensively, now examining her more carefully and taking in the little camp she had built for herself in the corner of the corridor. For reasons he couldn’t explain, the sight unsettled him so much it began to irritate him. To him, it was nothing but disorder. It felt wrong, as though she simply didn’t belong on the train. “…Did you escape from St. Mungo’s or something?”

“No. I’m a first year. My name’s Luna Lovegood. What’s yours?”

i get it - we all love the "repressed posh boy falls for a free spirit" archetype - but i'm afraid to say it's not a ship i think is watertight, simply because it seems to require so much alteration of both draco and luna's canon personalities in order to make that archetype work.

"xenophilius lovegood" as a name fits the conventions the series uses for half-blood characters (that is, combining an unusual, non-standard-english name with an english surname - see also "mundungus fletcher", "tom marvolo riddle" and "severus snape"), and xenophilius'... esoteric views don't seem - to me - to be plausibly held by someone who is an inherent insider to a community, but by someone who feels peripheral to that community's inherent knowledge and therefore invents his own theories as a way of filling in the gaps.]

harry is canonically desperate for it - since cedric tells him to go gargle his old bathwater and he does.

but it's one-sided, i fear. cedric is demonstrably the hottest boy in school and harry is canonically scrawny and mid.

real ones know that the true potential lies with shipping cedric with ron, thus bringing about the heat death of the universe when harry's unexamined bisexuality catches sight of them canoodling.

daphne greengrass/harry potter

full respect [genuinely] to the self-insert-mary-sue girlies for turning this into a ship with its own lore. harmony nation walked so haphne nation could run.

by which i mean, sure, they work really well as a couple because daphne literally doesn't exist and - therefore - doesn't require the author to think about things like "making her canon personality compatible with harry's".

blaise couldn't pick him out of a line-up, be real.

this, in contrast? true and plausible.

blaise canonically thinks that ginny's tasty, which means he's not going to turn down her fit, tall, sporty, easy-going brother.
