Scots naked, time travel, physics. What more can a girl want?

Drustan, having been tricked and bewitched, had spent nearly five centuries sleeping in a cave in the Highlands, until Gwen; an American scientist, tired of her tortuous life, decides to take a vacation in Scotland and bring him back to life by accident, when he wakes up he doesn't understand much of what has happened, but he knows that he has to go back to protect his people and his family from the fate he now knows, what he doesn't expect are the feelings they develop for each other and what they will have to sacrifice in order to have a future together, despite having such different pasts.

Historical romance is my jam, honestly, and I really liked how the author explains time travel through physics. It is a tender story, with endearing secondary characters, with the magic that characterizes Scotland and with a very masculine, passionate, loving and intelligent love interest. In addition to the fact that the protagonist is also very intelligent and deep.

There are a couple of smut scenes, so proceed with caution.

*spoiler alert: the only thing I didn't like is that the protagonist has never had sex and the love interest is the first to do it with and leave her... he has a good reason for doing it (I swear) but I still don't like it.

Just looking for an excuse to use Jamie Fraser’s pictures? Yes, indeed.

Day 29: Drustan

An ancient warrior who devoted his life to help the heroes when time would come.

My brain at it again with the wild rarepairs. I feel like this one verges on a crackship.

Drustan/Amber

I can just imagine the Hero coming home to tell his mom about all his adventures and getting to the part about the immortal warrior standing vigil over his trials.

And she starts bustling around where there's some leftover stew and bread on the stove, shoves the still-warm bundle into his hands, and sends him to deliver a fresh meal to the poor man cooped up all alone in that drafty labyrinth. And the Hero, being a good boy who loves his mother, Zooms on over, books it through the trial, defeats his mighty foes in record time, and wishes for Drustan to enjoy the piping hot stew and fresh bread Amber sent him. And naturally he obliges.

And it happens again. Once a week, the Hero checks on his home, enjoys a hot, homecooked meal, and runs a portion to the legendary deathless warrior determined to put him through his paces. First it's leftovers, then it's already set aside before the Hero can portion his own out, tied up in a tidier and tidier bundle, eventually including letters asking for preferences, and building to full blown correspondence between the two of them.

Finally the wish for a wedding comes and Drustan oversees it, partly out if respect for the Luminary, partly as an excuse to meet the woman who reached out with a simple kindness after centuries of isolation. And when he finally sees her, flitting eagerly around her son, he is fucking smitten.
