Hey soooo how badly will the cast react to the dule?. Like what will they think about what julius is doing to subaru. I know you told us about that some time ago but from the way they are reacting to everything beforehand julius getting punched in the jaw is going to be the LEST of his worries. PS: I love you're work please keep it up if you can

Julius actually has a couple things going for him, because 1) basically everyone knows he did this, it’s not a surprise, 2) he actively got punished for it by his boss and straight up suspended from the Order for a week (which is a pretty big deal tbh, ESPECIALLY considering his reputation as the Finest Knight and what this incident could have done to it), and 3) he straight up saved Subaru’s life. And that last part is even more important than it would be without the context of RBD, because now it’s not a matter of Julius saving Subaru ONCE, but the idea that he may very well have saved Subaru from getting caught in an Infinite Death Loop at the hands of the Royal Knights, which is just. Horrifying beyond words to everyone in the room.

There’s a lot of other stuff going on in that scene, however. For example, Julius already kind of thought Subaru ALREADY KNEW that he was in the wrong for that incident and went too far, because him going too far was literally the ENTIRE POINT of that whole display. So when Subaru starts stammering about how he knows he deserved it and that he’s sorry, Julius is just like “?!?!?! Subaru WHAT are you TALKING about?!” and then spends the rest of the scene trying to convince Subaru that NO, actually, this was NOT NORMAL. Plus Otto is losing his mind because he knows damn well what sort of landmine Subaru very nearly fell on, Emilia is already remembering their talk in a whole new light, Wilhelm is reeling from the reveal that Subaru was trying to be POLITE (as are several other characters tbh), and Anastasia is coming to the firm conclusion that all of this could have easily been avoided if Emilia had done literally anything to train this boy who clearly just wants to make her proud of him over the two months in which he was her literal servant.

I have an absolutely diabolical scene planned for Rem’s “I am fine with being your second wife” scene in Dogshow btw.

Most I’ll say for now is that it involves Julius hearing that, thinking of the type of person Subaru is, and taking a moment to try and warn him that he, of all people, is absolutely unsuited for polyamory — only for his stern words to land a critical hit against Subaru’s self-esteem.

Julius ends up apologizing for the duel at the end of Starless Dogshow btw.

It’s not even because he regrets it, because he doesn’t. But he does regret some of the things he said, and the fact that he probably should have at least explained why it was necessary because Subaru genuinely did not know better, and the fact that he really did go overboard.

But more than any of that: he really just thinks that Subaru deserves to hear someone apologize for hurting him.

You know looking back the whole scene with Emilia and Subaru following the Royal Selection and his beat down with Julius it's really sad because - it's the equivalent of someone getting a puppy, never disciplining it and getting mad when it tears up the furniture and then tying it the nearest lightpost and driving off. Simply put Emilia is a bad dog owner. Lol

This is pretty much the exact impression that Anastasia is coming away with.

The worst part about the Julius-Subaru dynamic in No Refunds is that for the first few chapters Julius is being awfully affectionate. And Subaru (obviously) has no idea that this guy’s affection is coming from THAT. And with everyone’s commentary from the demonstration on his mind, he kind of gets the impression that Julius is suggesting something…a little less platonic.

And then when Julius finally sits down for The Talk, Subaru is left fully believing that Julius is confessing something Very Different until the final sentence hits him like a hammer.

Poor Subaru.

Arguably the funniest part of the Julius Situation in No Refunds is the fact that 1) Wilhelm now has competition that he absolutely had not expected and 2) the two people currently battling for custody/fatherhood are ALSO the two people who have publicly beaten Subaru in a duel.
