Here's why the Democratic Party just sued Trump

The Democratic Party is taking President Donald Trump to court, accusing him of overstepping his authority and illegally trying to tighten his grip on federal agencies—particularly those meant to oversee campaign finance. The Democratic National Committee, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee filed a civil lawsuit on Friday in response to Trump’s executive order signed on Feb. 18, which sought to give political appointees far-reaching control of federal agencies. One such agency is the Federal Election Commission, which oversees and enforces campaign spending and finance laws. Top Democratic leaders aren’t holding back.  DNC Chair Ken Martin, DSCC Chair Kirsten Gillibrand, and DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene called Trump’s order a “blatant power grab by a corrupt Republican administration to help maintain their lock on power ahead of the 2026 elections.” 

The Democratic Party, via the DNC, DCCC, and DSCC, have sued Donald Trump for signing an executive order weakening agency independence (EO 14215).

Finding the person who hacked Hizashi’s account was the easy part. They were in the open, logged in as him constantly, making statements and addresses to his loyal followers every other day. Shouta was quick to confront the fake Present-Mic, Gatomon ready to fight. It seemed like it would be that easy.

Then the Fake summoned a creature that, while made of data, didn’t seem to be a digimon. It looked like a nautilus, and it looked hungry. 

“This is an Eater, yo!” The Fake explained. “Hope you’re ready for lunch!” 

Gatomon didn’t last long against the creature and Shouta picked her up quickly, calling for Hizashi to run. They both took off in the same direction but got separated as the path split. The Fake and his creature followed Hizashi, cornering him down a lone alley. 

“Times up, once my Eater gets a taste of you, you won’t be able to get in my way, even in the real world.” 

“Hm, looks like you could use some help!” A voice called. 

Hizashi looked up as a bird looking digimon descended, stopping right next to him and fluttering at an even height next to him.

“I would be more than happy to lend you my assistance, my name is Hawkmon.” 

“Hawkmon? Yeah, thanks, I could use the help,” Hizashi said, smiling a little. At least it wasn’t one that looked like a bug. “Hope you came to rock, listener, cause this thing is nasty!”

BEFORE THE Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee endorsed former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper in a 2020 Senate race, it pressured consultants from at least five firms not to work with a leading progressive in the race, the candidate told The Intercept.

Andrew Romanoff, who is one of more than a dozen candidates vying for Republican Sen. Cory Gardner’s seat, told The Intercept that multiple consultants turned down jobs with his campaign citing pressure from the DSCC.

“They’ve made it clear to a number of the firms and individuals we tried to hire that they wouldn’t get any business in Washington or with the DSCC if they worked with me,” Romanoff said. “It’s been a well-orchestrated operation to blackball ragtag grassroots teams.”

At least five firms and 25 prospective staff turned down working with his campaign, said Romanoff, who has raised more than $1 million in individual contributions so far. “I spoke to the firms, my campaign manager spoke to the staff prospects,” he said. “Pretty much everyone who checked in with the DSCC got the same warning: Helping us would cost them.”

A consultant who spoke to The Intercept on the condition of anonymity said that their firm had been far along in talks to work for Romanoff when they got word that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and the DSCC weren’t happy. The firm was told by a top DSCC staffer that they “absolutely under no circumstances could work for Andrew Romanoff, so we withdrew our offer to be his consulting firm.”

Months after the DCCC formally announced it would blacklist consultants who work with primary challengers against incumbent Democrats, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee—controlled by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer—is reportedly taking the policy of its House counterpart "one step further" by undermining progressive candidates attempting to flip Republican-held seats.

The Intercept reported Thursday that Andrew Romanoff, a Medicare for All and Green New Deal supporter running for Sen. Cory Gardner's (R-Colo.) seat, has had "multiple consultants" turn down offers to work on his campaign due to "pressure from the DSCC."
