DSDN 104 project 3 summary
For this project my aim was to create a form the tended to the hands natural way of gripping, grabbing and grasping that I had researched. The final form was a dynamic triangular shape that had a clear direction in order to communicate how it is to be held. A central whole indicated where thumb and finger are to meet and rest how a comfortable, natural hold. The shape is constructed of prominently organic faces, but also defined lines of direction. My real aim was for the form to be comfortable for all hands, not just specifically my size of hand, or restricted to right handers. This is why I created a generalised shape that utilizes how the hand sits naturally. The process I went through was explored in turn though both the physical and digital world so I could develop a balance between feeling how the form fit with the hand, and being able to visualize a refined, finished product.
[DSDN104] FINAL EVALUATION
For my final project I decided to concentrate on the grip of a gaming controller. I have always been interested in how developers of video game console are able to suit their many target audiences for the conformability of the gaming controller. I was intrigued to how any hand could wrap snug into the grasp on any person’s hand – no matter how big or small, male or female, adult or child was holding the controller. I was also interested in the way that different people could wrap their hands around the controller in different ways – to give more options to different users.
In comparison to the past models I’ve made, this model in particular is the only organic one I have explored. I added a lot of soft curves and sharp curves from the inspiration of a motorcycle to give it a sleeker look. I also started to implement a curve within my whole piece which helped implement the idea of how your hand I suppose to wrap around the object.
Overall, I found this project, stimulating and challenged me to look for other opportunities. I hope I will be able to continue using these techniques for practises in the future.

104 Project Three Description:
My model is all based around a sock/hand puppet. I wanted to create an object that looked desirable to play with and interesting to put your hand inside. The whole idea is that the model should be and object with a place to insert your fingers in order to keep it around your hand, and have it stay there. I aimed to have it so that when you let go of your thumb (like you do when you are making a puppet speak) the model will remain attached to you and is there for designed to stick with you. I made the design small due to the fact that puppets are generally intended for children, thus making it slightly awkward to hold if you were to have larger hands. The original idea to have a completely enclosed object turned out to look very unpleasant and bulky to look at. So I changed the design so that it was more like a strap around your fingers but it still kept it attached to you, this not only made it more appealing to look at but also made it easy to look inside the area you place your hand. When holding it you should feel like playing with it and it should bring back the curiosity you would have contained as a child. The magic is found when your curiosity kicks in.
