Here's a little lore/fandom discourse rant that's been bugging me:
(If you're a c!dream apologist you might wanna scroll down past this post, just a warning!)
Being a c!discduo fan is so annoying, because you find some amazing art or interesting character analysis and it turns out it was made by a c!dream apologist. Like, I get everyone has their own hc about the characters, the dsmp has become basically an individualist playground blah blah blah, but out of every character on the server you can portray as morally gray and misunderstood... you pick c!Dream..?
I get it, finding a morally grey character you emphasize woth is cool. I love c!Sam for example, he's like my top 5 favorite dsmp c!, and I know he's not exactly always the most beloved in the fandom. A perfect example of a character, that ultimately is a kind hearted person, but got conditioned by his position into becoming this ruthless warden in order to keep everyone safe. He's so fucking flawed, but I'll defend that man with my life using actual character moments in the text.
Contrast that to c!Dream, a guy who canonically is AT BEST a control freak, obsessed with power and keeping everyone in check, that results in him loosing basically all his friends and AT WORST a creepy stalker, obsessive child abuser with a god complex, who sees this 16-18 year old as a plaything, had a chance to redeem himself in prison to only to immediately fall back into his old habits after breaking out.
You can like c!Dream, I fucking love to hate the guy, he's so fucked up and he doesn't regret anything he's ever done, that's great! A great villain for the story and a great tool to develop the characters surrounding him.
But when you try to make him redeemable, despite it being shown multiple times that he doesn't regret or change at all, especially when cTommy is such a huge part of his character and vice versa... I'm sorry, you are ignoring and sometimes even defending a real serious abuse storyline that's majorly impactful to the rest plot at that point. It's super weird and no amount of "cute" post prison break c!rivalsduo fan media is gonna change my mind.
Pls don't doxx me tho-
"Uhm, actually the c!Tommy finale portrays a harmful message by having c!Tommy grow to understand c!Dream, who is a mean abuser!!!" 🤓☝️
So the message you think they should've portrayed is... what? Abusers don't have feelings? Abusers don't have motivations? Abusers aren't people? Abusers are black and white villains who must be destroyed? That people do bad things for no reason? That people who do bad things can't be redeemed? That we shouldn't try to understand why bad people do what they do?
Do you think any of those are a better message than we're all human beings who have different beliefs and take different actions based on our unique perspectives and experiences, and that even if we don't agree with others we should still try to understand them? Do you think any of those messages would bring more good into the world then this one?
Did you just miss the part where Tommy says that what Dream is doing is bad and convinces Dream that he can be a better person? Or do you just not like that part? Are you so focused on some vauge subjective sense of justice and punishment that you consider two people who've hurt each other growing to respect each other as human beings and agreeing to become better people is a bad ending? Do you actually, wholeheartedly believe that an abuser deciding to improve himself and stop causing harm is a bad ending?
Stop being a tar pit and use your brain.
I could never understand people who treat DSMP like a dead fandom or feel ashamed of still adoring this piece of media in 2024. After all, isn’t the whole point of enjoying any story to keep it in your heart for years instead of forgetting about it the moment it loses its popularity? How did classical literature or old movies/series survive and remain appreciated until today, for example? The DSMP fandom is alive because there still are people who deeply care about the characters, and it will keep on living until there’s at least one person passionate about it.
It is true that the DSMP fandom was bigger in 2020-2022, but it’s also important to remember the quality of the fanbase at the time. I remember seeing so much more harassment, especially directed towards people interested in portraying c!Prime’s canonically abusive dynamic without even exploring the aspect of /p physical affection; many people were forced to deactivate their accounts because of the insane amount of toxic reactions. There were also A Lot of people incapable of understanding that CC’s characters weren’t supposed to represent their real life personalities, which either led to certain CC’s harassment for being “horrible people” or to misinterpretation of certain characters (e.g. c!Dream, c!George, c!Sapnap, c!Quackity, or c!Sam), a huge amount of poor lore comprehension, leading to Lots of victim-blaming and abuse apologism.
Now that DSMP is over and less popular, a significant amount of people responsible for the fandom’s poor reputation is gone, and people who genuinely understand the characters and simply want to discuss and/or create content for their hyperfixation in peace, stayed. Of course, this fandom isn’t perfect or entirely free of Weird™ people, but there’s certainly less toxicity, and it’s all that matters.
The next time you feel ashamed of still enjoying DSMP, try to remind yourself of the wonderful memories, excitement, creativity boost, and friends it brought you, and focus on the fact that this story will remain alive for as long as you let it.
It's 2026 and people still believe cRanboo isn't as complex and flawed as other characters on the server
Alright for all those who follow me will know Im very active in mcyt, so I'm gonna say this.
I do not support Avid and will never support them again (and this goes for all cancellations). But, I will not let a creator's actions take away from my creative works.
All my fanfics, fanart, and headcannons will stay up despite what creators might do. I firmly believe that my art should still be accessible and shown because they're something Im proud of. Separating the character from the creator and all that jazz.
The pride and love that resides in my works is stronger than any action a creator could make.
So, don't feel preassured to take down something you are proud of or really enjoy just because of some fuck ass person on the internet did shitty things.
This goes to say that this is what I'm choosing to do, and that doesn't mean you have to as well. If you want to take something down, take it down!
Anyways, this is all I have to say on the matter. This post will regard all my written works with cancelled creators.
Lots of love and make sure you hydrated, eat and have a good timezone.
It's frustrating really, having fandoms with creators who are cancelled, questionables, problematics ect (Being true or false these accusations). Bc when that happens I have the fear to saying I like those medias bc what happens if people think I support, or in fine with the creators actions, what happens if everyone would hate me if I say I like TADC and people think I'm racist? What if I like Dsmp characters and people think I support groomers? What happens if people think I'm Republican like Scott If I say I like fnaf? Im fucking tired, my friends are called racist just for ship jayvik or like Dsmp characters.
I really want to watch the TADC movie but idk if people will think if I'm racist bc that.
I'm just tired, I wanna cry, I can't even enjoy anything bc I'm afraid of the creator of that new future hiperfixation becomes problematics and everyone hates the media and repeat the cycle.
