You checked the mailbox more to build the habit than because you thought there would be anything in there. You’d only moved here three days ago. No one should have had time to send you mail. Except that clearly someone had, because there was a brightly colored flyer in the box. You read it with mild interest. It was for a dance studio in town and had a picture of a dancing skeleton with a rose between his teeth. It could have been just an ad, something sent out to every house on the block, except that there was a handwritten note on the back of it.

Hello, new neighbor! I am the Great Tango, a skeleton dancer of great renown. I saw you moving into this house over the weekend but did not have time to greet you properly! I live at [address two doors down] with my brother and would love to get to know you! Please consider this your invitation to our studio (or our home) to meet me (and my brother) and, if you wish, have a free dancing lesson with yours truly! I am certain that we will be great friends! Your new neighbor, Tango

Well, your curiosity was piqued, at least. You’d never felt a real urge to learn to dance, but why turn down a free lesson? Besides, you’d also never met a skeleton before. It would be a new experience, and wasn’t that what you’d moved here for?

You were about to take the flyer and head inside when you heard a voice from the bushes two doors down. “They took it! I told you it would work!” It sounded like someone was trying to whisper but was really, really bad at it. You looked over just in time to spot a skull ducking back behind the bushes.

You decided to pretend you hadn’t seen him, even as you said loudly to yourself, “Oh gee, I really want to go and have a free dance lesson, but what do I wear? I just don’t know!”

Rustling from the bushes and then a tall skeleton sprang over the hedge and practically leapt into your path. “Hello!” he said, reaching out to shake your hand. “I am the Great Tango and I am here to help! You can wear any clothes you would wear to exercise! I am sure you can find something!”

“Thanks,” you said, trying not to laugh. “I’m so glad you heard me wondering about that. I was kind of afraid I’d embarrass myself if I went to the studio not knowing what I was doing.”

“You are most welcome,” Tango said, sweeping a bow. “If you would prefer, we could have your first lesson here at your house instead. Or at my house! Your choice!”

“Probably better at your house,” you said. “I’m still unpacking.”

“Excellent! I will go over and prepare. You go change and come over as soon as you can!” He bowed again and then whirled away. You had to admit, the man (skeleton?) had flair and style. Now you just had to find something loose and comfy to wear. You got the feeling you were going to really like your neighbor.

So, I’m not sure how much sense that made, but it was fun to write. I’m just imagining Tango putting the flyer in the mailbox and then waiting like Mabel watching someone get her rigged note.

Dancetale AU Headcanons 2.0

So about a year ago I made a post about all the dancetale type universes and my headcanons for them. But I saw that post again the other day and decided that post was kinda inaccurate so I decided to revamp them and give the skels more depth and varied dances uwu.

Dancetale Sans

No surprise here, Sans dances hip hop! Not usually breakdancing or b-boying (though yes, he will do those occasionally) because... have you seen all those power moves those have? They take so much energy and wooork OTL. Sans ain’t really about working hard, even though he is significantly more open to moving than his classic counterpart. So he usually just sticks to (what he considers) easier (which... probably aren’t actually easier asdfghj) hip hop dances like this!

Dancetale Paps

Also not a surprise, Papyrus does latin dances, more specifically the cha cha and the salsa! Specifically, salsas like this are his favorite. And it’s not unheard of for Papyrus to do that “walks on air thing” he did after his canon fight, while he’s dancing! It only makes it even more fun, and don’t worry; he’ll make sure you’re safe and secure in his arms while you two dance on thin air~

Danceswap Sans

In contrast to the above dance bros, Blue does neither latin nor hip hop. Instead, his soul calls out to a dance just as energetic as him, that being swing dancing! Both the classic old swing (like this) from the 30s and 40s, and the newer electroswing dances.

He also sometimes does roller skating dancing, too! Much like in this video at 2:06, he’s very adept at dancing in skates, expertly performing his main dance in them as well. Better have good balance and fast feet when ya dance with him.

Danceswap Papyrus

This boi’s not really into “official” dances, as he calls it. Honey crafted his own dance style: Meme Dances! (Really, could you expect anything else from the dude who Flossed to pay respects whenever Undyne’s house burnt down) His bro is consistently exasperated in his choice of dance, but supports him nonetheless. Default dancing, the orange justice, Hammertime, the Macarena, and these are just a few of the dances in his arsenal.

Dancefell Sans

Red is just an edgier Sans, so of course his dance style would be the edgier style of hip hop dancing as well! More specifically, he specializes in breakdancing/b-boying! (Although rarely cuz he is still very lazy.) Flip-floppin, high-flyin’ powermoves and all. Kinda like in this! It’s also often accompanied with popping, locking, and breaking, the perfect cherry on his dance sundae.

Dancefell Papyrus

Similar to Papyrus, Edge does latin dancing too! His favorite dance being a bullfighting dance just as dramatic as he is: the Paso Doble! It’s always an intimidating sight to see: the boi, half shirtless, angrily whipping his partner around in circles, frequently in midair much like Pap. Though, since he often dances with his enemies, he is... slightly less likely to keep as tight a hold on them as Pap is. Don’t worry, though, he’s sure you won’t drop... And if you do, but somehow stick the landing on your feet, then you’ve only gained even more of his respect.

Danceswapfell Papyrus

Rus is actually kinda internet popular for his dances! On his youtube channel (which goes by the name of (p)Elvis, for the record), he posts dance covers of his favorite songs, which has gained him quite the decently-sized following. As shown in this video around :47-1:02, his chosen dance style is 50s Elvis Era Rock & Roll! The bois practically a greaser, honestly, with that style.

He also does kpop-inspired dance covers to various vocaloid/utaite/anime songs on his channel as well, similar to this video. Sometimes he even does both styles in one video! It’s truly astounding how he manages to seamlessly fuse both dance styles into one dance and one video, and that’s exactly the sort of talent that gained him his following in the first place.

Danceswapfell Sans

Black struggled for a long time to figure out just what dance he preferred, but eventually he realized his true passion lied in Figure Skating! It’s perfect for him: elegant, disciplined, balanced, incredibly flashy. Growing up in Snowdin, he’d frequently sneak away to the many ice rinks in the forest to practice.

And in his spare time, he’s also picked up pole dancing! The non-stripper kind though, with most of his clothes on and very high heels. His dances are very much like this video, with equal levels of dramatics and epic music. And in both dance styles, he’s equally as intimidating as he is majestic~

DT Sans: He stays calm most of the time. The problem is that he can figure out any little thing you have done. It is his job to judge and punish after all. Without knowing why, slowly everyone you know starts to disappear. Soon, all you’ll have is him. Be careful though, He’ll judge you too. And he won’t go easy on you just cause he loves you.

DT Papyrus: He plays mind games. He’ll get upset with you for hanging out with others and even get mad if you do it to much. He’ll then “forgive” you and say it was his fault. He’ll manipulate you into becoming dependent on him. If anyone tries to take you from him, he won’t forgive them. You don’t want to know what happens when the god of forgiveness won’t forgive you.

DT Sans and PapyrusSince Halloween didn’t really exist in the underground, this would be their first time celebrating it. Frisk had to help a lot, especially with Papyrus asking questions like, ‘WHY ARE THERE SO MANY NAKED SKELETONS IN THE STORES??’ Sans was a little more informed about the holiday and enjoyed watching his brother flit around like a child in the costume store and bombard Frisk with questions. When it came to costumes, Papyrus decided to be Zorro, because he was “so cool,” while Sans decided to just wear what he normally wore and go out as a hip hop dancer…which he was. Papyrus was the only one of the two to actually go out trick or treating with Frisk, since Sans volunteered to stay at Toriel’s house to pass out candy. Unbeknownst to his friends, however, he posed as a prop on the porch next to the front door, with the bowl of candy in his arms and a sign that said, “only take one.” With his eye sockets open and his eye lights off, he had a fun time catching and scaring sneaky little kids who tried to take multiple pieces. (Too bad for him that most of the kids went to the dance classes Toriel offered and their parents called to complain. She was not a happy goat mom.) When Papyrus and the others returned, Papyrus shared his candy with Sans and declared that Halloween was his favorite holiday, besides Gyftmas. Sans agreed sheepishly as Toriel gave him the Disapproving Mom Frown™.

HT Sans and PapyrusAliza had never really celebrated it before she fell underground, so all of them were floundering a little as they tried to figure it out. The easiest part was decorating, since all they had to do was look at other houses and look up pictures online. They didn’t really go all out, though, since no one would be home for trick or treaters. Aliza’s favorite part was carving up the pumpkins, though she and Toriel had to look up ways to use the insides in a manner that wasn’t wasteful because Papyrus was getting a little stressed after he found out they were edible. They enjoyed roasted pumpkin seeds while their Annoying Dog ate the gooey guts, and everyone was happy. When it came to costumes, they decided to make their own. Aliza dressed up as Annie Fox because when she was in school, she only really liked famous people if they helped others, like she did for the monsters underground. Papyrus decided to dress as a chef, since cooking was what he did best besides making puzzles. Sans didn’t want to put too much effort into his own costume, but he used ketchup as fake blood and had Aliza write ‘Zombie’ in marker across his frontal bone. Papyrus claimed that was cheating, but when Sans scared more than his fair share of humans while they were out, he had to admit that it suited his brother.

February Prompts

I chose 10 prompts from my big What If list that I’m going to try to write up this month. I didn’t do that great in January, but I’ll see what I can do this month.

Jack and Roxanne would like to meet babybone... With their respective skelly's in tow :3

Bringing the Dancetale brothers along to visit baby Randy is a delicate balancing act. Jack has to help keep Break from being too anxious and Roxanne has to keep Tango from busting down the door and doing a dance of immense joy. They manage to keep their boys in check and go in, one pair at a time.

Tango goes first, vibrating with enthusiasm. He is very careful to keep his voice low as he says, "Hello, Randy! I am your Uncle Tango!" He only does one spin (without the baby in his arms). Roxanne gets to hold the baby while Tango hugs Blue and Ray happily. He presents them with baby's first dance shoes. They may never actually touch the floor, but it's the thought that counts! (And they are super cute...)

Break and Jack are next. Ray hands Randy to Jack and the two of them show Break how to safely hold the little one. Break agrees if he can sit in a chair. Jack makes sure to get a picture of his eyelights turning to hearts when the baby looks up at him and coos.
