I actually really dislike the type of story line that is shown in 2x01.

You have person A and person B. Person C arrives and makes person B look incompetent/stupid/negligent in front of person A on purpose, because they want something and person A believes them and in turn, also looks stupid.

I find it painful to watch, because we know that person B isn’t really like that and person C is a bad guy.
