Hello, I hope you're fine. Your blog is so interesting!
I was just wondering if there's any recording of how la Fayette reacted to Hamilton's death? Did he acknowledge it in any way? Do you know anything about it?
Hello Anon,
thank you very much for your kind words and thank you for your question.
Yes, La Lafayette did acknowledge Hamilton’s death and it is actually quite interesting that you asked about that in particular, because I have seen the theory proposed in some other forums, that La Fayette only found out about Hamilton’s death during his visit in 1824. That is simply not true. Hamilton died on July 12, 1804 and La Fayette wrote Thomas Jefferson on October 8, 1804, some eleven weeks later, that:
The Deplorable fate of My friend Hamilton Has deeply Afflicted me—I am Sure that whatever Have Been the differences of parties, you Have Ever Been Sensible of His Merits, and Now feel for His Loss.
La Fayette further wrote to George Washington Parke Custis (and I am sorry that I have no exact date here) after Hamilton’s death that:
Hamilton was to me, my dear Sir, more than friend, he was a brother. We were both very young, when associated with our common father; our friendship, formed in days of peril and glory, suffered no diminution from time: with Tilghman and with Laurens, I was upon terms the most affectionate; but with Hamilton, my relations were brotherly.
La Fayette did not wrote to James Monroe about the matter, probably because he was aware that Hamilton and Monroe had been on an even worse footing than Hamilton and Jefferson, and with that there were not many friends left in America to whom he could write about the subject.
I hope you have/had a lovely day!

I always wondered at what time Albus's appearance changed so drastically. And even though I think we can all agree that it's not truelly possible for him to have aged that much in 16 years and it's partly a mistake made by the producers due to lacking the knowledge of what we would see still from Albus in the future (unless one of my worst fears is true and breaking the blood pact somehow affected him and also his looks greatly) . But there still has to be a point when he decides to grow his hair and beard and maybe it's after the fight with Gellert. After such a defining moment lots of people tend to drastically change their appearance to somehow cope with what happened and to maybe somehow show the world how much it truelly affected them. So in my opinion we'll see Dumbledore's style of the Harry Potter movies after his duell with Gellert.
