PRESS RELEASE: Duke University - More Than Basketball
All are welcome to this free event in Central Harlem on April 27th, 2013
March 27, 2013, New York, NY – When most people think about Duke University, they think about basketball. The reality is that basketball is only one aspect of Duke University’s commitment to health and fitness. Through Duke Alums Engage, a program that integrates the concepts of service-learning and civic engagement, New York area alumni are focusing their energy for the 3rd consecutive year to promote healthy and active lifestyles for adults and children in Central Harlem. The event is free to the public.
“So far it’s been a real win-win. Last year 110 alumni, family and friends volunteered to help more than 300 adults and children in the Harlem community. This year we expect to double our numbers. In addition to complimentary screenings, which help participants identify underlying issues, we offer sports activities
and wellness workshops,” says Julie Ehlers, Co-Chair. Adds Jack Boyd, Co-Chair, “We want to provide the community with on-going education to empower them to make choices that lead to a better quality of life.
Raffle prizes throughout the day encourage participants to take time out of their busy lives to focus on their health."
The 3rd Annual FREE Community Health & Fitness Day in Central Harlem will take place at Dunlevy Milbank at 14-32 West 118th Street on April 27, 2013 from 10:00am – 3:00pm. For info, contact Jack or Julie at [email protected].
