Helios Dorm, Arkhelios Community College…

Ulyssa glanced around the dorm quietly. She’d purposely gotten there when the other young adults would mostly be in class. She wanted to be able to move in in relative silence. She didn’t need her friends from home interrupting her quite yet.

If anything she just wanted a little bit of silence. She knew the dorm would be as loud as home much of the time, and she’d purposely signed up for irregular class times in order to enjoy the quiet of a mostly empty dorm some days.

Was it really too much to ask, to just be able to get away from it all sometimes? At least while she was alone, she could daydream about making it big in Copperhead City, and never having to return to her parents house and her four younger siblings back in Arkhelios. If she never had to be around another screaming toddler, it would be too soon. She’d be perfectly happy to never return to Arkhelios if she had the option… Though she supposed Jorah was okay. He’d always been quiet and well behaved, and now he was old enough that he wasn’t a bother. Maybe she’d miss him just a little.

“You made it!” his face cracked into a wide grin. It’d been months since she’d seen him, the last time being when he’d gone home for a school break.

“Hey Bubbles.” She grinned when he snorted at the silly nickname she’d come up with when they were only 15.

“I missed you,” Zane said, quickly pulling her into a hug.

“I missed you too.” She smiled.

“Happy to be away from home yet?” he asked.

She tried not to roll her eyes, “Gods, I’ve been happy about that for weeks, and I hadn’t even left yet.”

He laughed, “well you’re here now. You can avoid your family indefinitely”

“Hmm” she hummed happily, “and I can spend more time with you… without my mother glaring at us from the kitchen.”

“Also true,” Zane grinned.

“Ulyssa!” She turned quickly, seeing her old schoolmate, Tennyson.

“H-hey…” She said quietly. She hadn’t seen Tenn in almost two years when he’d run off to college, and his mother had moved back to Copperhead City.

“Did you get here earlier today?” he asked.

“Yeah,” she said, “just after noon. I wanted to get here when no one would be around, less people to get in the way of moving my stuff in.”

“That makes sense.” Tenn said, “ah… There’s your boyfriend… we should hang out sometime though. Catch up.”

“Okay,” Ulyssa smiled. But her focus shifted to the open door, where Zane was standing.
