Pia had her fears, though she didn't dare to voice them out loud. Even though she doubted Zane would actually judge her for her demonic heritage... He was a witch himself, even if he wasn't practicing, for Watcher's sakes. If anyone in her life would understand, it would be him.
She felt as if saying it out loud would make it real. Which wasn't rational in any way, but feelings rarely were. That she feared Thomas would want more dates. Would want engagement. Would want marriage. Would want children. That she'd give him children that would turn into baby demons. That Daria would turn into a baby demon. Each time her mind started going down that spiral, she had to convince herself it wasn't realistic. Perhaps they would have one date and he'd realize he wasn't interested. Perhaps Daria didn't have the demon gene, her father had said it was quite rare after all.
"I'm excited about it," she said. "I can't help but worry, though."
"Don't think about it that way," Zane said. "It's just a date. You're not getting married."
Pia almost chuckled at his misinterpretation. Yes, I, Pia Rivales, have commitment issues. She pondered for a while before responding. "I'm not sure I want more children," she said. "I might have to ask him early on what his plans are regarding family. To avoid heartbreak down the road."
"It's up to you, but it's really not needed," Zane said. "You're not in love with him yet."
Pia pressed her lips together in a tight smile. In love, no. Had a crush on when I worked with him, yes.
"Thank you," she said instead. "That does help assauge my fears a little."
