‘She-Ra and the Princesses of Power’ really impressed me as a storytelling device for exposing the dangers of child psychological abuse and trafficking. The story of Adora and Catra having come from a warrior camp but one breaks out of it and the other stays was captivating and inspiring and the way they handled the heavy, dark themes was nothing short of phenomenal show writing.
I’ve only ever seen this show all the way through once but I would like the chance to watch it all over again. All 5 seasons because the last 2 seasons were easily the best in terms of the progression for the lead characters and the WLW love story between them - which was so well tied into the narratives and themes of the show and I did not expect that at all. Nor did I expect a ‘power of love’ endgame for them. I never expect that with WLW because networks/streaming services never seem to want to provide that kind of representation and maybe that’s partly why they won’t release the last 2 seasons on DVD. If so, everyone that felt inspired or motivated by them will inevitably do everything they can to fight for it to be released on DVD because we all know that we desperately need this kind of representation in our TV art/entertainment. We need to feel seen, validated and valued and ‘She-Ra and the Princesses of Power’ provided all of that for us. So we’re certainly not going to let it go without a fight. This petition is our fighting.
But we need as much help as possible if we are to succeed and essentially win the war on its survival.
I know that’s what ND Stevenson and Co would want.
