Although her parents insisted she take the next few days off, after what transpired at the Ministry, Alice was never one who took to free time well. Being idle wasn’t something she was capable of -- for since she can remember, there was always something that had her working ‘round the clock. So she finds herself back behind the counter, scooping to her hearts content. Perhaps if she works herself into a frenzy, she can start to move beyond the horrors she saw right in front of her very eyes. She was able to gather up a group of nearby revelers & take them to an empty office within the ministry -- able to barricade the doors & keep them safe -- but there’s a part of her that regrets not staying out to fight ( even though she knows what she did made a difference, she doesn’t feel like it was enough ). 

Even her usual sunny disposition that she saves for dealing with customer after customer seems to be shrouded behind storm-clouds, lost so deep in thought that she doesn’t even realize that her friend has approached. She looks up from tending to the cases, startled as she’s met with Dorcas’ face pressed up against the glass. “Merlin’s beard !” she exclaims, a little too loudly for her own liking, “Must you do that ? I’m going to have to wipe that down now.”

It was a Friday- one of those blissfully peaceful Fridays where neither department had anything for Lily to do, and she was sent home hours early. But she didn’t welcome the free time like she would have last week. More free time meant more time to think, and more time to think meant more time to obsess, and she’d already clocked far too many hours obsessing this week. She was too neurotic by nature, and the empty cigarette packs piling up in her wastebasket illustrated how nervous the interviews had made her. She couldn’t control it, and that scared her. So on her afternoon off, Lily found herself walking back into the Ministry, winding past security guards and getting onto floors she didn’t have clearance to be on. She’d found that if you looked like you knew what you were doing, everyone would assume you did. “Hey Dork?” She searched for the one person she knew could make her think about something else. “Dorcaaaaaas....”

“I don’t have time for this,” Lily sighed, peering out at her best friend from behind a pile of textbooks stacked half her height. “N.E.W.T.s are in a month, Dork, and I don’t have time to stop studying and play- what was it you wanted to do? Hide and Seek?” There were very few people she loved as much as she loved Dorcas, but there was very little she prized as much as she prized her grades. “After all, I’m taking seven, and I’ve hardly started revising for Arithmancy.” Did the Ministry grant Time Turners to students who didn’t have enough time to study?
