CLAIRE DESIGN FOR MY DWD AU YAY!! I love her so much.

If I were to do this again I'd probably remove the flower pattern on the pants its just kinda pointless... more info under the cut

I already posted my Quackerjack design so I am not going to re explain all that. This is Claire. If you don't know, shes a canon character from one of the dwd comics and I love her very much and I think she was very underutilized. In my au she is Quackerjack's ex wife and a professional puppeteer.

Her design is meant to parallel her husband's with similar patterns on opposite sides. Her pallet is a lot more harmonious and doesn't have the split motif which is to show she is the more levelheaded out of the two. I wanted her outfit to feel more playful than in in the comic since the two of them were children's performers. I wanted her to be very artistic since shes behind a lot of the set design and puppets on their show.

She already has a bit of a connection with his stupid little banana doll in the comic since she was trying to get him back to give him back to Quackerjack and I wanted to lean into that by having her be the original puppeteer of him (and the person who built the puppet) which makes Quackerjack's talking to himself using the puppet very. Weird. but it already was weird as hell so im fine w/ that!

The main thing is that I want Claire to work on her own as her own character separate from quackerjack which is why I gave her more skills.

Ive been toying with the idea of making her a hero because there just aren't a lot of heroes in the show other than DW and Gizmoduck. So much so that stegmutt is on the superhero team like that's just a guy whose also a dinosaur. Plus it might be fun to have a "cutesy" hero since DW just seems like the kind of guy to get pissed off about that to me. I just need to figure out how to make that work. Its hard because puppets and puppeteers in media are treated with the same level of "ew... that's creepy" as clowns so its a lot harder to make a genuine hero character based on those aesthetics than it is to make a villain. That is really sad to me because puppeteers and clown performers are both really cool to me :(

Recently i watched an interview that in a part Tad Stones talked about how Darkwing and Bushroot could reach to an understanding if they sit down and talked and i was reminded of this exchange the two characters have in the comics

I have been reading the Darkwing Duck comics lately, with one of the most recent ones being the Negaduck comics. While reading them, there is a moment from Issue 4#, part 4 of the Midas' arc that took me by surprise: When Taurus Bulba tells to Negaduck that he has been tricked and everything was a set up for Negaduck to get the Midas' gauntlet on purpose. Negaduck just snaps in such an emotional way that he hadn't before until this point.

Negaduck takes this reveal that he has been used very personally, as something that genuinely hurt him in a way. In the next panels we see him explode and turn everyone into gold, including the rest of the fearsome five.

It is such a particular moment because he rarely loses his cool like this, at least not to this extent that it looks more like an emotional outburst rather than just the typical ¨villain character getting angry their plans failed¨.

Again, it is a moment that takes you by surprise- this wouldn't be unexpected for some villains like Bushroot or Megavolt to do- but not so much for Negaduck.

And as strange as it is, i think it does makes sense when you consider the context in the story and that Negaduck is well... still Drake.

Drake as Darkwing usually cares a lot of how he gets perceived by others to the point he hates it when others ¨steal the spotlight¨ in some episodes like it is the case with Gizmoduck. And in the start of this arc Negaduck is feeling down that he ¨isn't the villain he used to be¨ and that even minor villains are having better ideas than him. So he was trying to come up with an idea to be seen as the ¨Number 1 villain¨ again by stealing Taurus Bulba's plan and finding the Midas' gauntlet by himself.

So it does makes sense why he exploded after all the work he did to find the gauntlet only to learned that he was being used all along. Negaduck was feeling deepy humiliated and it hurt his ego that another villain had outsmarted him like that. He couldn't deal with someone else stealing the glory and attention yet again.

This makes me wonder if there was or is some intention of exploring this side of Negaduck in other issues further. I doubt it is something about his backstory and more about how Negaduck has very similar insecurities to Darkwing and how is capable of acting because of them.

Will other comic exclusive DwD characters be featured in your rewrite? They are all very special to me (especially Stuff-Range).

its possible, although I currently have no ideas involving the other comic exclusive characters... I have not read all of the comics though. It's hard for me to keep track of all the different continuities since none of them have subtitles or anything to my knowledge.

But I am absolutely open to it if I find a reason to include them! :3
