Happy birthday, @chickenmilk120.
Second one drawn by @fujimizuho because apparently I’m a coward and we needed to see the pecks.
D'you In My Defence Moisturizer
Discovery: I first heard of this moisturizer when Alia Bhatt raved about this on her Skin secrets with Alia & Shaheen video on her YouTube channel. Thanking the commenters on that video who listed all the products oh-so-kindly, I looked up the cream based on curiosity (and the pretty packaging!). I'm not one to get influenced by a product just because a celebrity uses it, so I researched the ingredients and to my surprise they looked promising. As a skincare junkie, I was influenced by the composition of the formula and the combination of ingredients.
Purchase: I purchased this straight from the d'you website after finding the name of this moisturizer in the comment section. I believe Amazon also has an option to purchase it but the website often runs sales. I knew it was a 50ml bottle, but upon receiving it in the mail and holding it in my hand, it still seemed smaller than I expected.
Thoughts: I was desperately searching for a cream to use at night with my retinoid, differin (adapalene 0.1%), because my dermatologist suggested I go for a thinner cream and the Cerave daily moisturizing lotion was just not cutting it. If you've ever been on some sort of retinoid, you'd know just how irritating even the most non-comedogenic creams can be. Your skin is at its most sensitive era of being, and you'll find it dry and flaky all. the. time.
During the sensitive-purging stage of using differin, this cream paired wonderfully with adapalene (chef's kiss) which makes it live up to the claim that you can pair it with just about any active and - retinoids are the most active of the lot. If something can be paired well with tretinoin without breaking you out, you know it can be paired with anything.
Consistency: It has a thin, watery texture and a pink tint. There is a very light fragrance but it isn't flowery or perfumey, rather just an organic, faint smell which is almost negligent. I have dry, acne prone skin so although thick creams are marketed towards people with my dry skin type, the acne-proneness of my skin contradicts that and makes me break out. Over the years I've discovered that my skin needs a thinner cream that provides hydration, which although sounds like a mission, this cream achieves exactly that. My skin drank this up like water.
Usage: I used this cream exclusively at night. At the end of the day, I would double-cleanse my face with the Oat Balm cleanser followed by Cerave Hydrating Cleanser. Upon drying, I would apply differin all over my face and wait 30 minutes to allow adapalene to absorb as per the cardinal rule of tretinoin application (always wait 30 minutes before moisturizing). I would then go in with 4 pumps of this cream, which is excessive but my skin would be bone-dry after the 30 minute wait and needed it. I knew 4 pumps was excessive so using it once a day made sense + I had other daytime moisturizers I was trying so I didn't need this. My skin looked and felt hydrated almost immediately upon application. It didn't peel and It was all I needed to wake up with the most hydrated looking skin. I'd look forward to do my skincare every night after I started using this.
Final: I love this stuff. I purchased a second literally 2 weeks into using this cream. This bottle lasted me 2 months and 1 week, from May 1st to July 6th, of once a day use of 4 pumps. It is the priciest skincare item I own, but if literally everything in the market makes you break out and you want something that's safe in terms of that and also effective, this is it. This is a gem and tops the list of moisturizers I have ever used. An absolute holy grail and my favourite skincare product I've ever tried.
