ive been feeling super dysforic (cant spell) lately but my parents wont let me get a binder :(
I think there should be more recognition of body dysphoria caused directly by social dysphoria as a valid thing. I mean, to be honest, I'm glad I transitioned, I've been presenting as a guy for 10 years and have no regrets, but I'm not sure I would care as much what my body looked like if I was unconditionally accepted as a guy and people didn't put so much importance on sex characteristics as a part of what makes a man or a woman. My chest dysphoria was exacerbated by the fact that I had to bind or I would be outed. I don't care what down there looks like because noone can see it. I desperately wanted testosterone so people would stop calling me ma'am when I speak.
There are many ways to experience dysphoria and reasons for medically transitioning.
Hi, I identity as nonbinary trans masc and am getting top surgery. I have so much dysphoria about breasts that I can't ever see myself dating or having sex with someone who has breasts, whether they are natural or artificial (like breast forms) even though I see my orientation as pansexual. It would always remind me of my dysphoria. In fact, even in real life, when someone's breasts are huge or prominently framed, I feel a lot of dysphoria too. Ideas here?
It’s hard to answer this without having any idea what you’re already trying and working on, but here we go!
First off, don’t force yourself to do anything you can’t handle or aren’t ready to try. Just because you’re pan doesn’t mean you have to date people of multiple genders. If you can’t handle dating someone with breasts right now, then don’t. There’s a difference in avoiding certain physical characteristics because of assumptions or bigoted connotations than there is in avoiding them while you focus on your mental health and well being because you’re otherwise too triggered by something like dysphoria. You’re still pan, even if you currently aren’t able to date or otherwise have an intimate relationship with someone with breasts.
Second of all, know that getting top surgery will likely (eventually) change your perception of your body, your dysphoria manifestations and triggers, and how you interact with the world as a result. It’ll take time to get used to the change and really believe and settle with your top surgery, so be sure to give yourself time after you get top surgery. We can’t predict how your dysphoria will change, of course, but you may find certain aspects of confronting this avoidance easier a couple months after top surgery.
Finally, what are your current coping mechanisms for dealing with your dysphoria? Have you implemented any ways to help you mentally cope with and re-direct dysphoric thoughts? Are you working with a trans-friendly therapist on strategies of coping with your dysphoria, specifically exploring implementing long-term methods that will more generally benefit you than just distracting you in the moment? Have you done any work with CBT techniques, even utilizing apps like Pacifica if you don’t have a therapist you can currently work with? Have you explored using guided meditation as a way to re-focus and re-direct your thoughts utilizing apps like Insight Timer? How much time have you given yourself to practice mindfulness to recognize dysphoric thoughts, encourage them to “flow” away, and re-direct your thoughts to something less harmful?
Unfortunately, we can’t just delete or get rid of our dysphoria. It is work to put time forth to work on adaptive coping mechanisms (confronting the root of an issue to work towards a healthier, more long-term change vs maladaptive, which only short-term/temporarily relieve issues), but we’re worth doing so.
This is an issue you want to address, so you’ve already got a good step up to starting to work on this issue. You can do it. <3

i get vv dysphoric when im on my period and maybe we could get a dysphoric nb! alex w/ their period and maggie helping them through
Maggie woke to the sound of something crashing in the bathroom.
She knew the sound well, at this point.
“Dammit,” she murmured, rummaging on the floor next to the bed for one of Alex’s shirts, oversized on her small frame. She slipped into the shirt and padded toward their en suite bathroom.
“Need anything, babe?” she asked, knowing the answer, but also knowing that Alex liked knowing she was there.
Liked knowing she still found them sexy, that she didn’t think any less of them. Didn’t think they were gross or disgusting. And maybe most importantly, didn’t think they were making something out of nothing and just needlessly complaining about something so many people had to just shut up and deal with.
“A hysterectomy?”
Maggie chuckled and slid down to sit on the ground outside the bathroom floor.
“Should I gather together ample amounts of chocolate, a heating pad, and make Winn take off from work so he play a Kingdom Hearts walkthrough for my handsome darling?”
Alex narrowed their eyes even though Maggie couldn’t see them.
“No.”
“No? You don’t want any of those things, sexy?”
Alex shivered at the way Maggie always made sure to call them all the right things when they were feeling all the wrong ways.
“No.”
“Hm. Okay. I guess I’ll eat all the chocolate, lay all over the heating pad, and watch Winn do a killer walkthrough on my own then. Yeah? Sound good, Danvers?”
“Yeah.”
Alex was starting to smile, and Maggie could hear it through the door.
“On it. You take your time in there - holler if you want me to bring you boxers to go over those hot-ass boy shorts of yours - and when you come out, you can find me eating all the chocolate in the land. I might even let you have a piece. Sound good?”
“Pancakes, too?” Alex asked, because maybe they could get through this after all.
“Pancakes, too,” Maggie promised.
Me: Wow I'm passing so well today!
Gender Euphoria: Wuh yeah we are doing great! Your Binder is sitting good, you have the exactly right amount of layers and that button down surely does make you look nice!
If only your breathing wasn't that feminin
Me: What
Gender Euphoria: what?
Me: *Grabs and removes mask*
Oh shit...you aren't gender Euphoria you are
Dysphoria: Hahahahah! FUCK YOU AND YOUR FEMININ BREATHING
Me: THAT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE
Dysphoria: DOENS'T HAVE TO YOU ARE ALREADY FEELING BAD
Me: AHHHHHHHHHHHH
I’m sure.
It doesn’t matter about all that other stuff and whether I’m “trans enough.” I’m sick of constantly being aware of every feminine aspect of my body. Now that I’m paying attention I’m realizing that ever since puberty I’ve just been feeling this constant skin-crawly feeling and it’s getting worse the more I pay attention to it.
I have to be a boy. I can’t constantly live like this all the time anymore. I can’t be grouped with girls anymore. I can’t even sit alone in my room in this body without being disgusted and panicky.
Hey Kyle. Question; would you recommend buying a binder a few sizes too big to sleep in, or do sports in or whatever? My dysphoria hates my chest
No, because it wouldn’t support your chest properly and would make you feel more dysphoric properly.
Have you thought about trying a really well made sports bra? I would bind with them when I didn’t have a binder or wasn’t able to use mine. Victoria Secret and Under armor high impact work great, make sure they don’t have any cup inserts!
