Nintendo Direct E3 2019 Highlights - Part 2

And we’re back! Miss us? That’s understandable. Now where were we? Oh yes. Approaching the end of this year’s Nintendo Direct at E3 2019. What’s next?

Well we guess it’s time to get the negative out of the way. With the highs from the likes of ‘Luigi’s Mansion 3′ and surprises like ‘No More Heroes III’ inevitably comes a low. Sadly ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ has been delayed until 20th March 2020. We guarantee that we’re just as upset as you are about this but Nintendo have cited their reasons being that it needs more time to become the absolute best it can be. We appreciate your perfectionism, Nintendo! But this one hurts. We did however get a trailer which we’ve dropped for you below. We’ll get through this wait together!

Think back to part 1 of this blog and how it was kicked off with new characters for Smash Bros Ultimate. Got it? Good. Now think about our brief mention regarding potential new characters from an iconic Nintendo 64 title. Got it? Even better. In a truly Rare occurrence we are treated to what fans have been calling for... Banjo Kazooie are joining the Super Smash Bros Ultimate roster! And what a way to introduce them with this epic trailer that integrates Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong for the reveal! Take a look at the magical moment below and prepare for their entrance before the end of this year:

We’re now approaching the end and the Direct is drawing to its close. We’re saddened and somewhat knackered from all these epic announcements. A good lay down is needed in order to process and reflect. But wait... Could there be? One more? Oh go on then. What ya got?

OH S**T.

We knew there’d be Link’s Awakening. We were prepared but not for this. WE DID NOT SEE THIS COMING. Nintendo already have a sequel to ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’ in the works! In a short trailer that does EVERYTHING for us, is there a better way to end this presentation? For those of you at the back that is a rhetorical question. It brings a tear to our eye. It really does. You’re too good to us, Nintendo. I mean we’ve not forgotten about that Animal Crossing delay but this will do for now eh...

ubisoft did okay! better than ms/ea/bethesda which is impressive considering it’s ubisoft. beyond good and evil 2, assassins creed and farcry all look interesting. really wish they would stop with south park and just dance at every e3 though

My Thoughts on Xbox E3 2017 Briefing

Having watched this briefing, I can say I’m happy with just how game focused Microsoft has become since the debacle of 2013. Of course, this year’s E3 was centered around new hardware in the Xbox One X. Admittedly it’s a powerful console being about 8 times stronger than the Xbox One. It runs faster, contains more memory and is running games natively at 4k 60 fps. From a technical perspective, it’s the most impressive console ever. It’s just, unfortunately, being released at an awkward time in the market. Xbox One just released just under 4 years ago at $500 price point and for all the negative press it’s gotten wasn’t a low selling console and considering PS4 was even higher selling the market is pretty saturated with high priced consoles. To now come in and ask gamers to shove out another half grand for a new console despite how impressive it will be a difficult task.

Particularly because there were no old heavyweights and no new exclusive that seem obvious to anchor the system instead it just seems an enhanced Xbox One. No new Halo was shown, No new Gears were shown. They did showcase Forza 7 which is sure to be great but I’m unsure if it will be enough. If they were able to match the Xbox One X with a new Halo that would be wildly impressive and possibly a console seller. I can say personally having an Xbox One myself and not owning a 4K TV I don’t have the incentive to buy a new expensive console yet regardless of how incredible the performance of it is. Speaking of games, Metro looked impressive, as did the anticipated Crack Down 3. Sea Of Thieves looks to an interesting pirate-themed adventure game while  Lucky’s Tale look’s like the type of cute and platformer that Xbox is typically lacking. Cuphead is coming soon as well, and I’ve been looking forward to that since last year. So there were impressive games that fortunately will be available on the Xbox One.

If anything is exciting about the Xbox One X is it’s potential. The performance increase will give developers need space to create games and game worlds they’ve wanted to since the beginning this generation. Once the install base is in I can see more original IP coming from Xbox One X to the extent that will be more impressive than were being shown now. So overall I’m excited yet still skeptical for Xbox One X. As far as the Xbox One is concerned, there’s definitely games I can’t wait to get my hands on.

So about the Xbox One X

Apparently the CPU is about as powerful as an i3. The GPU is about as powerful as a 1060/1070. IF this is true (I’ll have to recheck sources in the mornin’) then the GPU is going to be horrendously bottlenecked by the CPU. 

I have an i3 in my current gaming PC. Before I upgrade my 970 to a 1060 I have to upgrade my CPU to an i5 in order to avoid possible bottlenecks. For the current price, this console IS NOT worth the money. You can get a better PC for the same price - and the PC will do everything else too.
