I am SO heartbroken.
"Asylum" was a project I was following for years and watching McGee and his team banging out art, concepts, story and game mechanics constantly over the years was inspiring.
I fell in love with American McGee's Alice when it released in 2000. Just a kid watching my older brother play on PC and loving the creepiness of it all, especially the music composed by Chris Vrenna. The game trailer is still one of my all time favorites.
American McGee's Alice was one of the games that exposed the concept of fairytales being disturbed and creepy to the general public. Fairytales being twisted from it's source wasn't a new concept but McGee was definitely ahead of his time with Alice and companies began following the formula in later years.
So it's very disheartening reading this news and even more so that McGee is burn out and wants nothing more to do with "Alice" even if a petition is successful. And worse still, EA would not even sell him the rights to the IP.
Thank you for the journey Mr. McGee. You were a source of creativity and inspiration for a lot of us in our youth!
