the survey regarding why people are leaving the sims 4 is hilarious. to put it simply, the sims 4 HAD potential, my save file, is my idea of its realized potential. the problem is that the limitations built into the game designed it to have the average sims lifespan. 4-5yrs.
the memory issues are potentially the biggest problem with the game because it can’t handle the amount of DLC the franchise has pushed out. much of it feels rushed and some of it is great, if they would’ve spent the first 5 years dedicated to creating quality content, the argument of not wanting players to start over with the sims 5 wouldn’t be as strong and the sims 4 would’ve been one of the greats, yet the lack of TLC leaves the game still feeling unfinished.
its decade of development has been rocky and unkept. systems and updates have been abandoned. i like that they split occults up and actually enjoy most of the kits. the fact that they can so effortlessly repeat pack ideas with new and improved mechanics and nobody at EA bats an eye, shows that it has lived passed its expectancy.
i think once they made the base game free and allowed new players in for long enough to buy what’s hot and new is where they went wrong. the turnaround of players is surely low but it doesn’t matter because the odds of someone getting a free base game and buying a quick $5 kit to experience the rush of dopamine to hold their attention span long enough to feed the corporate greed matters more than the players who have been around the block.
i’ve played with this FRANCHISE for over a decade and after EBN came out, i finally accepted that the foundation of the game is more than cracking, it’s severely unstable and very unplayable at times. i shouldn’t and won’t disable packs that i’ve purchased just to maybe enjoy a game that is lackluster and needs to be let go.
