An unusual disability aid but one that’s significantly improved my life and I want to take some time to appreciate, my wizard hat, I made it myself so it would fit comfortably and fulfill all my needs properly but previously id occasionally wear a cheep Halloween costume hat

The wide brim helps block lights, especially useful for flickery florescent ones, especially at places like grocery stores.

the brim droops a little in a way to act like horse blinders (or at least that’s how I always explain it) I can’t see movement to the sides of me as well which reduces my stress, and the fabric and foam together do a really good job at muffling noises behind and besides me making it easier to focus

also to the last part a bit, it helps muffle noise without any pressure on my ears which I hate

more temperature regulating than i expected, so far at least, warming when it’s cold but cooling in the sun (also good in rain and stuff too, keeps it from hitting my face)

it provides a very comforting weight on the top on my head

gives me an easy conversation starter, small talk has often been stressful, but many people are naturally curious about the hat, and that’s easy for me to talk about, I made it myself from scrap fabric, same fabric as my cloak, it’s a mix of machine and hand sewing, etc etc (also I keep little trinkets on hand for people who ask about my hat, especially kids, but everyone)

it helps ease my anxiety in social situations, I assume if anyone is staring at me they’re just admiring my fabulous hat, I also feel it makes all my other things less strange by comparison

so yeah, in conclusion, wizard hat is amazing
