These are impressive so far and that’s says a lot since I haven’t bought new ear pro in over a decade. Nearly two years after we first started reporting on the phenomena, Eastern Towhees are still screaming. Multiple hypotheses have been tested and found wanting, though we have yet to disprove the “genetic memories resulting in perpetual recall of the K-T extinction event” model nor the “total awareness of The End Of All Things” which afflicts their distant cousins the Whiskered Auklets.  The Academy of Bird Sciences still recommends earplugs and rudimentary-to-basic self-defense gear (up to and including a nailbat and/or saturday night special) when wandering through Towhee territory, but this is primarily to ward off hearing damage and discourage any predators who would take advantage of hampered senses.

I decided to try a new pair of electronic ear-pro. I purchased a pair of Walker's Razor Slim and compared to my old pair of Howard Leight Impact Sport I'm pretty happy with them. First off they handle sound differently, the HL Impact seemed to cut out the loud noise and anything else at that instant where as the new pair lowers the loud noise. It leaves the rest which is nice in a range scenario with multiple shots going off at once you can still hold a conversation. The pads on the new pair seem a little thicker and more comfortable, I like the on/off & volume dial more and the audio jack is also positioned in a better way plus has a rubber boot. The new pair also seems to cut out more noise overall. Both pairs are a slim fit so they do not interfere with a rifle cheek weld. Only time will tell if they hold up as well as my old pair but given that the price is only $40-50 even if they only last a year or two I'll happily pick up another pair.

As much as I love my Howard Leight Impact Sports, sometimes they get in the way or it’s just too hot for ear muffs. But I cant do without electronic ear pro anymore, shoving a piece of foam in my ear just won’t do. So for those times when muffs are too much I picked up a set of @3mpeltor TEP-100’s. Rechargeable, water resistant and 30dB noise reduction with the skull screws. They seem reasonably comfortable trying them out in the house.
