#HappyEaster Making Memories, Having Fun Doing It It was Easter Sunday and in my home city, New York City a tradition dating back to 1870 made its live come back after a two year hiatus due to the pandemic. Yes, after 2 years we had our informal New York City Easter Bonnet Parade for all to attend and the day was gloriously sunny and just right for all of us to be there. In anticipation and my heart going out to the people and pets of Ukraine I got to work on Easter outfits for my boys, Bogie and Kimba and, of course my chapeau, a traditional though themed out top hat. I chose the colors of Ukraine and took from there. As you can see by the photo we had a blast as did everyone who got out and about. Bogie's and Kimba's blinged out tuxedos with tails along with matching top hats feature sequins, stones, orchids and rhinestones and more as did my coordinating top hat. #HappyEaster! On this day we Christians celebrate the holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD. It is the culmination of the Passion of Jesus. It has become tradition that on this day everyone dons their best attire to attend mass. From this the other tradition of wearing what we call Easter Bonnets displaying all sorts of magnificent millinery involving flowers, bows and all kinds of wonderful decor to express our joy and our love and the magic that is Spring. Starting as a spontaneous event in the 1870s, the New York Easter Bonnet parade became increasingly popular into the mid-20th century—in 1947, it was estimated to draw over a million people. Its popularity has declined significantly, drawing only 30,000 people in 2008. In 2020, the Easter parade in Manhattan, New York, was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Today we are back to celebrating Easter live and I for one could not wait to participate and take in all of the beautiful artwork and finery as it walked along fashionable Fifth Avenue. Here are my boys with me as we participated. I created Bogie's and Kimba's tuxedos with matching top hats with Ukraine on my mind and so I designed in the colors commemorating Ukraine for the boys and my tophat. I decided to bling these boys out and since it was such a sunny day they shone like beacons grabbing everyone's attention and compliments. I am just so grateful to have these two boys with me for another joyous Easter reminding me how blessed I truly am. Happy Easter to everyone...
