ok so i am not really a believer now or anything, i haven't stepped my foot in the church since 2010 apart from attending funerals, but there was always something about the great friday that really hit me, regardless if what's described in the gospels really happened or no, the whole idea of god's son sacrificing himself like that to save humanity always pulled a particular string inside me. call me crazy but like he was literally just some dude, he made friends, he turned water into wine when the newlyweds run out of alcohol at their wedding, he rolled his eyes at peter's snarky comments, he prayed in the garden for god to 'take away that cup from him', he let himself be betrayed and tortured and crucified to save humanity like objectively this is very sad and heartbreaking. and then when he got captured even peter, when faced with the roman soldiers said: 'uhhh jesus? never heard of him, i don't know the guy'. something about that whole thing has always and still does, make me absolutely, incredibly sad
