"Mattix, you can't hide behind a rock forever."
"I'm not hiding. "
"You told Echo to meet us near the LZ in the Rupture. He's over there. You're behind a rock."
"I not hiding. I just..." he trailed off. The turquoise sky was peaceful, no cabal ships in sight.
"You're not getting a sitrep. Don't try that one. "
"I'm--"
"Hiding behind a rock," a new voice said. Mattix looked up to see an Exo leaning over the rock, a green Ghost over his shoulder. "And arguing loudly with Sunshine. "
Mattix hastily stood and dusted his knees off. "I'm not hiding."
Echo's glowing eyes squinted briefly before he swung his feet over the rock ledge and sat down. "This is childish even for you. You ok?"
Sunshine looked at Mattix in anticipation. After a pause, the Titan sighed.
"Honestly? No."
Echo looked at sunshine, the plates of his jaw shifting. Then he killed at his own ghost, then back at Mattix.
"Alright. Didn't expect that. What're we doing on Io?"
Mattix relaxed his shoulders and Sunshine span her shell in a very gloating manner.
"I need advice from Asher, and I need you to help me make as much Light as we can."
Echo tapped his hand cannon at his hip. "I can do that. Why?"
"I'm making a gun. We're going to find the biggest, baddest thing on this moon and you're gonna burn it in sunfire, and im gonna channel your light into the frame I'm working with instead of myself."
"And Asher?"
"That...is going to be an uncomfortable conversation. You know how he lost his arm in the pyramidian?"
"Yeah. He's obsessed with that thing. "
"I want to understand corrupted light. His ghost is afflicted as well. I want to see if I can learn how the corruption is spreading. If it can be...directed. pushed. Shaped."
"You want to use his affliction to learn how to change the light you're channeling from me?"
"More or less. I don't want just the light to be in the gun, I want the gun to feed on it. Grow as it is fed. "
Echo looked over his shoulder towards Asher's camp.
"Yeah, you go do that. I'll hide behind the rock. "
"Right?"
Echo looked back at Mattix. "Hey."
"Yeah?"
"I'm glad you're back. "
"Me too."
