Is it still echolalia if it’s thoughts and not speech ?

apparently if it’s repetition inside your head then it’s called echologia, so echolalia is a separate echophenomenon because it’s out loud? i’m not really an expert, but I AM super keen on the word echophenomenon!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ✨

The Echophenomenon

Most of us know about echolalia, but apparently there’s a whole family of “echo” behaviors! I made a little graphic, feel free to tag yourself if you like!

When I watch a series or movie or read a novel sometimes I start to mimic the characters, their movements, the way they talk, their expressions, even their attitude or personality. It's unconscious but I do it a lot. Would that be an autistic thing? Or something else?

This would likely be part of the echophenomenon. Although it’s common for NT’s to experience this to a degree, doing it to a noticeable extent would likely be an autistic thing.

IIAAT to yell things I see? Like while driving past a field I have to yell "Cows!" If I see them. Same with any other animals, or if we pass an orange grove it's "Oranges!" And so on. But then sometimes it's signs too. Like we pass a restaurant with a big sign that says "all you can eat" and so then I yell "All you can eat!" And I can't explain why I do it, half the time I just do it without even thinking about it.

I’m not sure what it technically is, but we’ve had similar asks before and I do the same thing, so it seems to be a common thing that we experience. I’d say it’s most likely tied to the echophenomena, like echolalia.

Is it an autistic thing to speak or think in accents if I just saw a movie/show or read a book with a character with an accent? Because after watching Harry Potter, I spoke in a British accent, and after Wonder Woman, I spoke in Diana's accent.

Picking up accents from other people seems to be a pretty common thing for autistics and may be related to the echophenomena.

i repeat songs, words, phrases, etc a lot. I consciously do it as a joke or because it's fun to do. However I'm not autistic. Is this still echolalia? I have adhd if that relates somehow. Do adhd people do that?

Echophenomenon are found in multiple different conditions -- particularly, ASD and cousin disorders (one of which is ADHD)!

Can you echolalia body language? One of my special interests is a video game series and I just beat one and one of the characters often puts their finger by their face while they're think and I noticed I started doing it too

Echopraxia (also known as echokinesis) is the involuntary repetition or imitation of another person’s actions.

I pretend to type words repeatedly, and also repeatedly go through the fingerings for my french horn and trumpet. Could this be a form of echolalia?

This sounds like stimming to me. If you’re repeating these movements as you see/hear them (i.e., you see someone typing and pretend to type, or you see someone playing an instrument and do the fingerings) it could be echopraxia. However, what you’ve described sounds like a form of stimming.
