#econ 1000

Hello, I am currently a psych major looking to switch to Economics and unfortunately I got a D+ on both ECON1000/1010, however I did fairly well in other ECON 3000 courses. I still haven't submitted my degree change request yet because I'm afraid it will get rejected due to the two D+'s, even though the requirement is a cumulative GPA of 5. Should I re-take ECON1000/1010?

If you’ve already passed these courses, then I don’t see any reason why you should repeat them (that’s my personal opinion). If you feel like you can do better, then yes you can repeat the courses. It’s really up to you as to what you want to do. Having said that, I would also add that if you got a D+ in ECON 1000/1010 then is switching to Economics really something you want to do? I think you should first evaluate why you did poorly in those courses.

Is econ1000 usually bell curved? If so, how much would it be?

I never took the course, so I can’t say. Generally, bell curving doesn’t often happen at York, and if it does it’s up to the professor (at most they’ll bell curve up by 5%, some profs have bell curved down before too when the grades are too high).

I was thinking of taking econ 1000 and econ 1010 in the summer, as well as adms 1000 (online) and adms 1010. Would that be a heavy course load?

I don’t like any of those courses so my opinion would be biased lol. Last I remember though, ASMS 1000 didn’t have a heavy course load. However, please keep in mind that online courses are normally more work than in-class courses due to weekly submissions and such, well at least that’s what I found from my experience.

Sorry this may be a stupid question but I just wanted to be assured. Can I possibly take Econ 1000 and Econ 1010 at the same time?

My econ 1000 syllabus skips chapter 1. Should I read it anyway in case there is fundamental knowledge I need to know to understand topics later on?

I mean you can if you want to, but if it was necessary to understand later topics it would probably be mandatory. I’m not 100% on this, but I remember when I took it it was mostly like a history of econ chapter.

Is taking econ 1000 and 1010 in the same semester a bad idea? I got two of the best profs and I do not wanna switch out I also dont know what other courses i should take since I am not positive about the program I am in

I can’t really say since I haven’t done ECON.

I haven’t done them simultaneously, but I don’t really see an issue. They both have a lot of concepts that play off each other and are really similarly structured. Just make sure not to confuse what is a macro concept and what is a micro concept. Also later on, the graphs of supply and demand get different depending on the perspective, so just pay attention to those.

Hello, I am trying to take two gen eds course to fulfill the non science requirements and in the past I took Econ 1000 and did really horrible in it. Is there any way to petition off the Econ 1000 mark off my transcript since I have no need for it and its bringing my gpa down? Thank you!

If you’ve already passed the 1 year deadline since the end of the ECON course then it’s too late to petition.

If you haven’t, then yes you can still go ahead with it.
