Two articles; one that fueled the progressive fire in my belly and another which questioned the ardor of my compassion for minority plight.

It's crazy. I think the film industry is just a reflection of the brutal capitalism that we live in now. The 99% and 1% pendulum of society is reflected in art. You buy the painting by whoever for $50 million, or you buy the shitty thing in the market for $1,000. There's no middle ground. Or in films, you do the $4 million, $5 million movie or the $150 million movie. Suddenly, the middle class is disappearing and all of those middle things are gone. It's a very difficult time for those films that I used to do.

'Economic gap between Malays and Chinese can spark racism'

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28, 2014:

The widening economic gap between the Malays and Chinese is now at a worrying level and it may give rise to issues of racism.

Kedah delegate Datuk Maznah Abd Hamid said the information was retrieved from the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) based on prior researches.

According to her, 50% of the Malays can only afford to be in the partially skilled group while only 25% were in the management level.

“The Malays’ economy is very weak and something has to be done about it. As someone who has been involved in business for 35 years, I see the percentage portrayed by Pemandu as a guideline in finding a solution,” she said while debating the economic motion during the Umno General Assembly today.

She told the delegates present at the Putra World Trade Centre here that the Malays should not feel comfortable with what they had now as it would only serve to stunt their development.

Hence, she urged the government to focus on the younger generation so that they would be given an opportunity to involve themselves in things that would bring them a better future.

She said the field of entrepreneurship was vast and Malays should venture into this field which was the preference of the Chinese.
