The purpose of this image is to display the damage caused by the wildfires in California. The intended audience is for people looking to show support or gain knowledge on the fires sweeping through California. The image uses mostly pathos as it displays a woman standing in what looks to be the remnants of her home, which appeals to the viewers emotional side making them feel bad for this woman.

The picture shows contrast as it has the trees that are alive in the background and then what looks to be fallen trees on the ground throughout the rest of the image.The photograph demonstrates alignment as the woman is strategically in the forefront of the picture and all of the damage lies behind her. It also includes proximity as it has a large open space surrounding the woman and trees very far in the background. However, it doesn't really involve repetition other than the colors being dark and lifeless.

This reflects my understanding of the my subject as the photograph shows the damage done by the fires that have become more common and larger in size due to climate change, which is one of the largest environmental issues that our planet faces today.

In the article “To Save the Climate, Look to The Oceans” by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson she successfully pulls in the reader while persuading them how we need to heal the ocean because it is a source of climate solutions. Johnson uses multiple rhetorical appeals as in pathos to connect the reader emotionally from the beginning and logos to support her statements. Johnson uses these appeals to draw in her audience which would be people who are also interested in saving our climate and oceans or researches who are out to get more information.

In the article “Fracking: The Solution? Or the Problem?” by Alison Singer, the argument is successful in conveying how there are many negatives to fracking even though it is more efficient and easy. Singer uses the methods of logos and ethos to make the reader comprehend and believe her points. The intended audience is anyone who cares about the environment and wants to make a change that can save our planet. I believe that it is important we attempt to transition into renewable energy as fast and effectively as possible in order to help our planet.
