BBC Father Brown characters as Muppet Christmas Carol characters

twelve days of fishmas, day 4 — carol

ok so some of these are very close matches, some are more based on half-vibes, and some are just,,, the only characters i had left. i have tried to make them work, but in some cases you may find me willfully ignoring parts of father brown canon to make things fit (esecially with the women bc there are only like six female characters in the movie and two of them are bloody identical). pls just ignore this gjshfjdhf

pls also ignore any odd relationships / dynamics that appear as a result of certain character pairings — this is solely about the individual characters, not how they interact and whatnot. (sullivan and grace i am so so so sorry for giving you characters who are courting in the movie,,, but also this is on you for fitting those characters so well 😭😭)

Inspector Sullivan as Ebenezer Scrooge

Obsessed with his work. Spends most of his life being a grumpy fuck and lashing out at the people around him, but does a personality 180 after being shown how to let love into his heart

Father Brown as Charles Dickins (Gonzo)

Tells the story, knows things about its events that he seemingly shouldn’t, and is unnecessarily vague about how he knows these things and what’s going to happen next

Sid Carter as Rizzo the Rat

Food-obsessed chaos gremlin. Doesn’t think things through before he does them, and is inclined to fight rather than flight

Inspector Mallory as Jacob / Robert Marley (Statler / Waldorf)

Does his job as he sees fit, and doesn’t care whose life he ruins in the process. Only regrets his actions when it personally affects him, and even then doesn’t do much to change his ways. Also lots of heckling

Mrs McCarthy as The Ghost of Christmas Past

Somehow knows everything about everyone, and will recount these stories with no regard for how it’ll impact the people involved. Values tradition and a connection with the past

Just sort of gets how things work. Disappears after a short time, having been through a facial hair transformation

here’s my take on the sullivan family tree! afaik it’s fully canon-compliant, and i keep adding to & updating it, so it’s a constant work in progress. and also has been getting a bit out of hand 😭😭

there’s some info about navigating the tree under the cut, which i recommend reading before you dive in :)

the tree is best viewed on pc bc the mobile formatting & navigation is,,, not great. especially in landscape mode 😭😭

by default, the tree view is set to show everyone’s title & suffix, full name, nickname, photo, age, date of birth, and date of death. you can customise this with the settings cog

characters with white borders around their box are canon. characters with purple borders are original characters that i have an au for — there’s probably more info about this in their bio sections

on mobile, you can press the pencil icon (top right) to view the character’s info card. on pc, this panel should be shown by default, but you can also collapse and expand it using the grey double arrows ( << and >> ) on the bottom left

i’ve based all the ages on s12, primarily using the actors’ ages for canon characters, so they work with the second sullivan era. for the first sullivan era, you’ll need to add around ten years to all dates (note: some deaths etc might not make sense with this)

the ages will default to age now; if you go into settings and press the dropdown box that says “now,” you can choose a specific date. i tend to have mine set to 1 september 1955

okay but with new FB info coming out about the next season, like, I'm very excited for so many things but I shall compose a list, in no particular order

the return of Eddie Devine. he did not have a good introduction - not because of writing quality, he was just a little shit - but he seemed to ease up on Sullivan at the end, so I'm excited to see him again, hopefully some bonding, and some Eddie redemption

Sullivan's parents. so exciting. his father is in two eps and his mother in one, by the looks?? I'm excited to see the dynamic, not just because this man and his parents, but Mrs D with them, how Brenda will act around a presumably retired copper, all sorts

Mrs Goodfellow has a name now? after all this years?? I'm excited to meet Violet, for her to have lines, a personality, I'm ready you know, it's been a long time coming

Lady Felicia in two episodes, fantastic

Flambeau is back again as always

Angela Rippon is in an episode and she will be dancing and I am so excited

also John Hopkins. not dancing but he's there. if you know me, I love Midsomer Murders, and I love Dan Scott, and I just really like John and his work so it'll be great to see him in this

hello, yes yes, he is indeed. actually it was @daydreamerbeliever that brought this to my attention so credit where credit due, but yes, he is, and his name is Eddie

also, on the actor's agency page, for Father Brown, under directors it said various, which to me implies that we'll see Eddie in more than one episode - though that could also just refer to the fact the show has had multiple directors, it's not super clear

Your objections to her moving the furniture or dressing different make no sense--though her not giving you your dad's deathbed message _was_ ridiculous. Enough. Stay in London and move on with your life.

2) That said, anyone who hands the still-vapid, still-simpering, grimacing, hopelessly show-offy, rock-stupid Devine her head so consistently deserves high praise from every much-tried former FB fan out here. And your moments humiliating her were things of beauty---especially after the wife-carrying and her insufferable unerotic clinch with Sullivan. Team Eddie--let loose the dogs of war, baby!!! 🤣😈😂🤣😂
