the en script for ffxiv is good particularly because everyone’s manner of speech is so varied and the liberties the english text takes aren’t unwelcome but “[i am] he who shall awaken our brethren from their dark slumber” just doesn’t have the same thematic weight as “for my brethren who slumber in the dark, i will take back the world” because the latter ties into the primary conflict of shadowbringers where you’re helping the people of norvrandt reclaim their home from catastrophe and how the ascians are trying to take back all of reality and restore it to how they remember and yearn for it. it is emet-selch’s declaration of rebellion against the status quo, responding to the WoD’s challenge to him and their own rebellion against the apocalypse of the first. 

again i’m not ragging on the en text because a LOT of work was put into it and it has a lot it can offer on its own merits, i just prefer how poetic and thematically appropriate the jp text is.
