In 1976, I was 13 years old. That summer I watched the Olympics from Montreal, Canada, on television. I've always loved the Olympics. To push yourself to the brink for just one moment in time. That is desire, passion, commitment, and the list goes on. The 1976 Olympic Games were the first time I witnessed greatness. Greatness had a name, it was Edwin Moses. Edwin Moses (born August 31, 1955) is an American former track and field athlete, who won gold medals in the 400 m hurdles at the 1976 and 1984 Olympics. Between 1977 and 1987, Moses won 107 consecutive finals (122 consecutive races) and set the world record in his event four times.* To do what he did, and at that level, for 10 years is absolutely mind boggling. As I have aged I have grown to understand what commitment means. Hell, I've been the National Guard for 24 years as of this July. Think about what Moses had to do. He would get up early or stay late to run one more lap or jump one more hurdle. For 10 plus years at a world class level. I'm new to the sport of triathlon. I won't be doing it for 10 years, but I will do it while I can at the level I expect for myself. I just want to do well and not look like a fool. And if it helps improve my overall health, I'm all in. I'm a runner first and foremost. I love pushing myself to see what I can do in that arena. Isn't that part of athletics anyway? To see how much we can do and to compete? And not just competing against others, but against ourselves too? I've also been humbled as I see my son perform in cross country or track. He's starting to pick up my habits. Primarily, doing his best every day. And that's not just in sports. He's doing better in life every day too. That's how I know I have set a good example. Edwin Moses, if you're out there and you see this I just want you to know that you have been a motivation to me for many years. I think I have a better understanding why you did your event for so long. Thank you. If you have something or someone that motivates you use it. Get out and be motivated for a better day. Every day. #motivation #motivationmonday #edwinmoses #summerolympics #commitment #dedication #myhero #olympicheroes *from Wikipedia
