I've seen it argued that Mat didn't have much to do this season, and I guess he didn't in terms of impacting the spine of the plot, but in a drama there are other kinds of having something to do. Playing an amazing scene is doing something too. Mat felt important to me in the finale, even though he and the rest of the scooby gang failed in their whole mission, because he went through an Experience, and that Experience was NOW YOU'RE IN A MAGIC DEATH ROOM WITH NO EXITS. AND THERE'S A FUCKING FUCKED UP PENNYWISE-GRINCH-THING FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION INTERROGATING YOU. HOW 'BOUT THAT, FARMBOY? YOU THOUGHT YOU HAD A GRIP ON THINGS. IT'S BEEN TWO YEARS OF THE MOST INSANE SHIT IN THE WORLD AND YOU THOUGHT YOU HAD A FRAME OF REFERENCE. YOU'RE GONNA DIE IN HERE WITH THIS FOX ALIEN. UNLESS YOU SAY THE RIGHT WORDS! CAN YOU SAY THE RIGHT WORDS MISTER IMPORTANT HORNBLOWER???

So personally for me this was both a great Dónal episode and a great Mat episode. YMMV.

People out here joking that the Eelfinn looks like something from Cats (2019), when the truth is that Cats (2019) looked like Eelfinn. Not Wheel of Time's fault they thought "how do we make this guy look like a terrifying eldritch horror that would eat your soul and wear your skin?" and remembered Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tom Hooper had already created a prototype. Inspired decision. 10/10 choice. And WoT didn't even have to use the uncanny valley of CGI to help.
