Matty did not like Mac when she first came to work at The Phoenix, but that wasn’t a surprise to anyone

She thought James was entitled (bc let’s be honest he is) and thought that Mac earned his spot on the team because of his dad

Very very quickly she learned that it was actually the opposite: Mac had his doubts about himself because of James and his inability to parent like a sane human being

Matty’s not much of a touchy person, especially after Ethan, and wanted to just stay away from the whole touchy-feely emotion thing that the team had going on

That immediately changes when a mission goes wrong for Mac and Jack

They were meeting with some diplomat in some European country, Matty was not happy about it, but hey, that’s the job

Everything goes to shit, Jack gets shot, and Mac fucks up his ankle while diving for cover. Riley and Bozer are both at LA working from behind the screen, but there’s not much they can do when there are gunmen 

Jack’s bleeding out, and it’s looking really bad

Between Matty and Mac, they’re able to get him into the kitchen, of all places. From there Mac is gathering materials and things to help Jack and hopefully get them out of this situation

But he’s doing it pretty manically

Mac’s pulling everything off of the shelves, out of the knife block, even taking parts from the dishwasher

As soon as Matty tries to calm him down, it just makes everything worse

She knew that they were codependent, but this is a whole new level

Jack is unconscious and Mac is highkey panicking 

It’s been a long time since Matty’s worked through a panic attack with someone, but it’s obvious that’s what Mac needs right now. While putting pressure on Jack’s wound, Matty tries to coach Mac through breathing

Mac’s just falling apart, he can’t lose Jack, he just can’t. Mac has one hand on Jack’s wound, and the other on Mac to keep him grounded

Her heart just fucking breaks for Mac

Matty’s never seen him as a child, but she can’t help it at that moment. Mac just needs comfort, and the worst part is, she doesn’t think he knows, because usually Jack is the one to deal with Emotions

Eventually Jack’s able to get whisked away in the ambulance

And before Mac can even question it, Matty’s drawing him into a big big hug

It’s wholesome as fuck

For the first time since he went to college and mama Bozer hugged him goodbye, Mac gets a hug from a mom
