Eiwaz: the yew tree. The yew is a very sacred tree. Yggdrasil is believed to be a yew. An alkaloid toxin found within the yew affects the central nervous system, and can produce powerful hallucinations. The yew tree is also known to release this toxin as a gas that lingers in the shade of the tree, and may cause hallucinations for any individual underneath the tree. The yew is a extremely connected to Wyrd, as well as all natural magic, and is extremely important to heathenry. The yew is associated with death as well as eternal life, making it both a tree of life and a dark tree of death. The yew is often found at heathen religious sites and at later religious establishments in Germanic areas.
