Wednesday, September 4: Ektomorf, "Revenge to All"
Ektomorf carried the unlikely distinction of being arguably the only band on the planet to claim Soulfly as a primary influence, but one could also argue that there was something to be said for Max Cavalera expanding the dimensions and boundaries of metal enough that a Hungarian band would be inspired to add their own indigenous elements to the framework. Nonetheless, even with some generously applied context “Revenge to All” was pretty ridiculous, somehow feeling longer than necessary even though it only ran 3 minutes. There was that Soulfly nu metal bounce and cartoonish growling, and for that matter it was almost a throwback to the days of bands yelling about “the pit”. To be fair, it had some charm to it, and one could appreciate and even enjoy Ektomorf’s caveman approach, but it was silly all the same.
