Elektra is absolutely TERRIBLE with money. Not because they want to spend so much, but because they don’t understand it. They’ll skip stones but with coins, use €100 notes to put their gum in and throw away, and so on. It’s just paper and metal, what makes it so special? It drives Brakedict Vanerbatch crazy, he can’t stop them because it’s their money and Elektra kind of likes the frantic look he gets when they play around with the funky paper and stones.

Caboose tapped his foot on the ground, impatience rising higher by the second. Honestly, he didn’t know why he didn’t just leave already; it wasn’t like Electra couldn’t get back on his own.

Caboose huffed. He peered through the front window of the jewelry store, easily spotting his boyfriend as he chatted with one of the store’s employees. A small bit of irritation mixed itself in with his impatience. If Electra was going to leave him out here while he shopped, the least he could do was make his trip a quick one.

Trying to distract himself, Caboose let his gaze wander around the inside of the store. Everywhere he looked, expensive jewelry glittered beneath their display lights. The overflow of gold and gems would have been gaudy if it hadn’t also been so tantalizing. His fingers itched with the desire to pocket a few of those pieces. They were small enough that he knew no one would notice right away if one or two went missing.

Electra had perfectly predicted this urge, of course, which is why he made Caboose promise to stay outside while he shopped.

It was a begrudging promise, to be sure, and every second that passed while he was waiting for Electra to finish up, he was more and more tempted to sneak into the store, promise be damned. Electra would be peeved, but he wouldn’t be outright mad unless Caboose got caught stealing something. He was confident enough in his thieving abilities to know that he probably wouldn’t get caught, but he wasn’t entirely eager to risk it. If he did something that would get Electra banned from the store, Electra would never forgive him for it.

With a sigh, Caboose resigned himself to waiting a little longer. Another glance through the window showed Electra and the sales clerk smiling and nodding about something, so with any luck that meant that they would be finishing up soon. Good, Caboose thought, turning around to lean his back against the window. He was getting bored.

Sure enough, a few minutes later, Electra was rolling out the door with a new pair of very fancy earrings already in place. “Took you long enough,” Caboose grumbled. His tone was half genuine, half covering up the way he was enviously sneaking glances at Electra’s earrings.

They weren’t 100% Caboose’s style, but they were very pretty, and obviously very expensive. Delicate swirls of silver wound their way around small diamonds and even a few rubies, thrown in there for some color. Caboose bit back a frown. He’d been eyeing a pair of diamond studs for himself through the window.

Electra was unfazed by Caboose’s sour attitude. Without waiting for him to hitch on, Electra set off down the street, head held as high as ever. “You won’t be saying that when you see what I bought you,” he said as Caboose fell into place behind him.

A spark of delight rose up in Caboose’s chest at that. “What’d you get me?” he asked, trying not to sound as excited as he was, but not entirely succeeding.

Electra threw a self-satisfied smirk over his shoulder, holding up a black velvet case for Caboose to see. It was an exercise in restraint for Caboose to not snatch it out of his hand until he held it out to him.

The box was long and thin, meaning that it didn’t contain the earrings Caboose had wanted. He was disappointed at that, but only a little, the curiosity of what his gift might be easily outweighing any real displeasure.

Not wasting a second, Caboose flipped open the box’s lid. “Oh, Lex,” he murmured, delicately running his fingers over his gift.

It was a simple silver chain, the links large but not clunky. It didn’t hold any of the flashiness Electra preferred for himself which made Caboose love it even more, because that meant Electra had been thinking only of him and what he would like when he picked it out. A light heat rose to Caboose’s cheeks thinking of that, and he couldn’t hold back the small, fond smile that tugged at the corners of his lips.

He was still staring at the chain when Electra reached forward to pick it up. “Here,” he said. “Turn around.”

Wordlessly, Caboose complied. He felt Electra loop the chain around his neck, clasping it at the back for him. He couldn’t help but reach a hand up to gently touch the chain where it rested on the top of his chest.

When he was done, Electra let his hands rest lightly on Caboose’s shoulders. “Do you like it?” he asked softly, sounding almost uncertain.

Caboose couldn’t wait any longer. He turned around, smiling fondly at Electra as he reached up to run his fingers along the base of Electra’s mohawk. “I love it,” he said, and pulled Electra down for a kiss.

Them, look at them 🥺

These two have become very near and dear to my heart and I have A Lot of Thoughts and Emotions (most of which I can't necessarily share in this post because ✨ spoilers ✨ so I will talk about the Beginning)

But we did name the series Soulmate AU, so it's reasonable to deduce that they are, indeed, soulmates. Neither of them know it yet, but BV can't deny how completely enraptured he was as soon as Elektra showed up to the yard, so easily taken in by his magnetism. Elektra noticed him as well, absolutely, but his head was pretty focused on the competition but...uh....he was definitely distracted at certain points which affected his performance.

And when Elektra was desperate for a race partner, he was willing to pay such an insane amount? Lol come on, he's dumb, but not THAT dumb.

Or, I could just say simply that love makes you dumb. They both did some pretty stupid stuff during the championship.

Part of BV's payment was meant to a little fun (read: sex) after the championship, which still miraculously happened, maybe Elektra just couldn't keep away? Couldn't resist for some reason?

Every second they spend together just seems right. Like this is where they're meant to be. The events of the championship don't even matter anymore, Elektra just counts himself lucky to have joined the race that day. Little do either of them know that it was all fated to happen this way.
