Do you have any fun but conflicting character interpretations or dynamics that you especially enjoy playing with and/or seeing in different fica?
i fricking LOVE seeing how other authors write Metro Man. i've seen him run the gamut from "jealous and abusive" to "dopey dork who just wants to sing" to "does his best but is kinda bad at it" to "does his best and is kinda good at it but has to try really hard." my favorite Wayne will always be the one who wants to do better, even if he doesn't know how.
carnivore!wayne is also a fave, but in a different way :P
fun but conflicting interpretations -- Wayne, again! in all of my universes except Swansong, he's sort of fraternal-platonic towards Megamind if they're on good terms, but in the Swansong-verse he is in love with Megamind. it popped up while i was writing Chapter 12 and it wouldn't go away, and i'm still a bit salty that i couldn't make the polycule happen...but Swansong wasn't the fic for it. that'll have to go in the sequel, if there ever is one.
I also have some maybe conflicting interpretations of Megamind? but they're not really contradictory. It's more a matter of...playing with the balance of his mental state, I suppose. This is why the followup to Long As The Day In The Summertime is taking so long. Four-years-ago Megamind is much the same person as the Megamind Roxanne knew and loved, but the way his mind works is slightly different. He has an easier time of some things, and a harder time with others.
(This was a theme with Swansong, as well-- being the same person, but thinking differently. I think it's because I have a lot of feelings about medicated brains, and how much bullshit people are fed about "but meds will change you, you won't be yourself anymore." It's a crock of shit but it's pervasive. The way you think is not who you are. Those two things inform each other, are part of each other...but they should not be mistaken for each other, and I think too many people make that mistake.)
