Frieda-Of-Beyond Excerpt 3

(probably should have titled it like this from the beginning but oh well

here’s another excerpt from a story i’m trying to write writing called frieda-of-beyond)

Frieda took a long, deep breath, closing her eyes as she smelled the warm air tinted with petrichor. It was evening now; the sun was sitting upon its throne at the horizon, a vibrant orange against the ever-changing gradient of the sky. “I didn’t see the wolf this time,” she mumbled to herself, thinking back to her dreamless sleep.

“The wolf?” asked the man, who had turned around. He seemed younger to Frieda, though perhaps it was only the evening light playing tricks on Frieda’s mind. Now that Frieda was actually paying attention to the man, she noticed the odd familiarity of the man. Frieda mused for a moment that it was quite possible she had seen him in a dream somewhere, or perhaps a photograph, but she shook her head of such impossible thoughts; this was not her world, and there was no logical explanation for where she might have seen him before. But this world does not seem logical, does it? asked the little voice in her head. Frieda huffed and decided she would answer the man’s question, rather than listen to herself prattle on.

“Yes. They look quite like the one you wear. They appear in my dreams. I was hoping to ask them their name, but it seems that might have to wait for another rest.”

The man hummed. “It was probably Eligard.”

“Eligard?” repeated Frieda. “But… aren’t you Eligard?”

“I was.”
