February 2020: Your best friend Jimin’s roommate recommendation, IT guy Yoongi Min, moves in with you.
March 2020: Covid Lockdown."
Had to link this two-shot by automnesleaves on AO3 and my little review. Only the first chapter is finished, but it's great already!
Spoilers below~
From the beginning I really liked how no-nonsense this MC is. She sticks to her guns and seems, quite frankly, sick and tired of people tagging along for an easy ride. Her dynamic with Jimin is really sweet and comfortable; their adoration for each other is really apparent. While the MC is a bit bitter about everyone in her life finding love before she does, she tries to just glaze by it...but Jimin totally sees through her.
The scene where Jimin is essentially trying to sell MC on Yoongi is s o amusing! I feel like we can all relate to circumstances where we're desperately trying to convince our friends of something and end up digging a bit of a hole for ourselves. Yoongi sounds like a potential weirdo and Jimin adding the bit about his ex should've put him on the chopping block, but MC has a soft spot for Jimin so 🤷🏾♀️ Yoongi gets a chance.
Their first meeting was so interesting to me. Yoongi could have been construed as a bit cocky, but he was just really no nonsense and to the point. I could tell that MC was initially a bit put off by his attitude, but he truly did drive a hard bargain in the end. (I gotta admit I was impressed by his rationale) And MC is totally benefiting from having the Perfect handyman move in with her and immediately starting on the home improvement work. The moving in sequence with Jungkook had me ROLLING! Kook was so sweet and cute, I really felt her pain when Yoongi told her he's taken(moment of silence pls 😔).
Jimin is absolutely, 100% up to no good with arranging this "bonding" exercise for them. I can see that boy's cooking up SOMEthing 👀 But it was great seeing them work together and open up a little bit with each other. Super cute that they sat down together for the Real bonding exercise of sharing movies. Especially since Pride and Prejudice is MC's favorite. Yoongi actually cracked me up with his commentary because that's Exactly how I am when watching movies 💀 I have a comment for everything. Only at the end did I realize how those comments could be misconstrued as mocking or disinterested. I feel horrible that she felt as if something she loved so fiercely was being picked apart. 🤧 But there's hope yet that they'll make up 😭
AHHHH yay for having an extension to this world! I did wonder how long Chap 2 would have to be to wrap the story up, but Leaf loves us (and this couple) so much that it's no longer a two-shot 🥰
Spoilers below~
I always find it interesting to learn more about the (potential) love interest when the protagonist isn't around. Like 👀 yes, hand over that insider intel that our main character has no idea about! It was great to see some of Yoongi and Kook's dynamic when they're together, like how Yoongi’s competitive side was stoked just by working out together 🤣 But omg how MESSY. It's so interesting to note that Yoongi really was after the room for the same reason as everyone else: "guaranteed good luck". The fact that he refuses to tell BOTH Kook and Jimin about why she broke up with him doesn't sit right with me. It feels like he's hiding it from them because he knows they wouldn't approve of them getting back together. (I've been there. Give it up fam l o l) Yoon p l e a s e. I know it’s only been like...a week, but I'm gonna need you to get over your ex.
YET AGAIN: I LOVE JIMIN! The dynamic Jimin and MC have is so great. The way he effortlessly rebuffs her thinly veiled threats is *chef's kiss* and he is so totally unphased by her theatrics. Probably because he's got a penchant for the dramatic himself! Jimin is dropping some major hints here as he tries to look out for his good friends and I'm right there with him.
MC getting to see all of Yoongi's equipment was also an eye opening experience. He's quite the character, this Yoongi! The copious amount of outdoor equipment is totally foreign and a bit overwhelming to me, but it's awesome to see how dedicated and passionate he is about his interests. It seems like that kind of strong-willed attitude is at his core and weaves its way into all aspects of his life. Though we do get to see him being more hesitant with the groceries he brings home as a peace offering. Though I suppose our dear MC didn't really give him much of a window to bribe her. We get to see that signature kind of stubbornness make a return and ngl I felt the vindication from leaving him in the dust lol As potentially petty as it may seem 🤣
Getting to see a bit more of what MC likes to do was rewarding as well. Her love for art must run so deep since she's not only doing it as a job, but also in her free time. The Café Couple give me the MAJOR warm fuzzies and I adore MC's history with them. Getting to document their relationship as it blooms 🥺 Also literally Shut Up. The parallels between MC's ideal meet-cute and the way Yoongi stumbles upon her at the café??? Yeah. I'm screaming. Then the fact that Yoongi rewatched Pride and Prejudice of his own volition? My heart grew 3 sizes hearing him talk through all of the plot points he enjoyed. That's the most sincere apology I've ever witnessed!! Major props to him for going to those lengths to make things right (even though it mightttt be as a result of an ulterior motive 😬). So looking forward to the next installment! 🥰
