OJT EATS | El Pastor Borough
We’d previously been to the El Pastor on Brewer Street in Soho (read about that trip here). This time, we decided to give the Borough Market one a go. The menu is pretty similar but the vibe was very different. The Soho one had a much more clubby feel to it while this had much more of a rustic restaurant feel to it.
First up were the totopos or tortilla chips that we got with guacamole and refried beans. The totopos are bottomless which are a nice touch but not the guac or beans which while it is a bit of a shame, does mean it is less likely to fill up completely on them before any of the other food comes!
Next up were an array of tacos. The ones above are with confit mushrooms and an oaxaca style cheese crisp. The mushrooms were nice but the star of the show was the cheese crisp. It wasn’t too salty but just had that amazing melted cheese texture to it!
We enjoyed but weren’t blown away by the tacos el pastor last time with the pork and the pineapple but these were much better! Really tasty and the pork was super juicy!
Octopus and pork belly tacos. I think these are my new favourite type of tacos. A little bit of surf and turf with the grilled octopus and fatty pork belly all topped off with coriander and a dollop of chipotle mayo. So good!
This was our favourite dish of the night last time we were at El Pastor so we couldn’t resist ordering it again this time and it was just as good this time!
We were hungrier this trip so ordered one of the larger plates, the beef short rib. It came with a side of bone marrow and as you can see, it was clearly fork tender. It came with pickled onions and a couple of salsas all of which were very moreish. Like the totopos, this came with unlimited tortillas but as I was stuffing as much meat in my mouth as possible, we didn’t end up needing that many.
Tacos El Pastor is rapidly becoming my go-to for a quick and easy meal of tacos. There are other excellent places like Santo Remedio (read more about what we thought here) but in terms of locations like Soho and Borough along with tasty tacos, El Pastor is hard to beat!
