Ik we all kinda collectively agree that Waterboy is under the umbrella of pathetic man but like. Not really??? Like he isn’t as pathetic as most people make him out to be. Yeah he has the demeanor of a sopping wet cat (and he is in fact, sopping wet, literally) but I really don’t think he’s pathetic at all. The word “Pathetic” implies he’s miserably inadequate or at least worthy pitying in terms of inability, but that’s not accurate at all!! He’s actually extremely capable, both in and out of battle. A pathetic man would be Phenomaman, a dude who has the power to extinguish the sun but prefers to sigh and walk around with his shoulders slumped like that ant with bindle meme because he’s sad his gf broke up with him. But Herm is actually super responsible, his powers just make basic tasks virtually impossible to do. The dude can’t even go to sleep without soaking the bed through, not only is his power is a massive inconvenience but it also makes him an easy target of ridicule as well! No wonder he’s insecure! The way he acts doesn’t derive from him being stupid or incapable, it’s because bro is literally living with the worst possible status effect to have 😭 I also think a lot of people tend to infantilize him as well because he’s pretty neurodivergent-coded and it really irks me. Like that’s a grown man with dick and balls lil bro…he literally breaks through vending machine glass (which is tempered, mind you) with a PLASTIC CHAIR. Tbh I see him as someone similar to Okarun from Dandadan where he’s not pathetic, he’s just awkward, nerdy, and used to bullying which makes him insecure, but with the right shove he can absolutely lock tf in.

Waterboy being a pathetic man insinuates that he has a lack of accountability, agency, self-reliance, maturity, and respect. Which is….not true??? At all?? I feel like his appearance makes things a bit deceiving but he’s not lame whatsoever 😭 He just needs reassurance and experience, that’s literally it. That guy could curbstomp you any day of the week if he wanted to, he just chooses not to. Anyway sorry for the rant just wanted to get this off my chest because I keep running into fics where they write him like he’s this incapable lil guy which is super icky to me 0_0 can we let one grownass neurodivergent character actually function like an adult instead of babying them plsplsplplsssss im begging you
