When Should I Go to the ER?
Going to the hospital when you are worried that you are ill or injured is an important part of staying healthy. Floyd Valley Healthcare is here for you - 24/7 - and doing everything we can to keep you safe.
These days, we are all worried about contracting COVID-19. People who have symptoms of the virus often go to a hospital’s emergency room to seek immediate care. Because of this, many people are nervous about going to the hospital for any other reason. That’s not always the best approach.
Should I go to the hospital for emergency care?
In a medical emergency, you should always seek help, and, many times, that means a trip to the ER. If you delay seeking help for conditions that need immediate attention, there may be serious consequences. If you have a problem with your heart or your breathing or if you have chest pains or symptoms of a stroke, it is important to be evaluated as soon as possible.
Floyd Valley Healthcare is here to help, but we can’t do anything for you if we do not know there is a problem. So if you have a problem that you feel needs immediate care, head to the ER. If you’re not sure, please give us a call.
I am concerned about safety. What is being done at Floyd Valley Healthcare to ensure that it is safe for patients?
We have spent a lot of time enhancing our set-up and workflow to protect against exposure to COVID-19. (To learn more about the changes for patients, visitors and staff, click here.) We are very diligent about how we clean all the high-traffic areas and make sure that all staff members wear masks. We are doing everything we can to protect you from possible exposure.
Please wear a mask or face covering if possible. To help us help you, there are some things that you can bring when you come. Have a list of all your medical problems and the medications you take. It can help to bring the medicines themselves. While this advice is always true, it is especially important during this now because it can speed up your visit.
Should I go to the ER, urgent care or schedule a Virtual Visit with my Floyd Valley Healthcare provider?
It depends on what is happening. If you are experiencing something that you have been treated for in the past, and you have nn idea of what is wrong—or it is a minor problem—then it is totally appropriate to go to Urgent Care. You can also call your doctor’s office to arrange for a Virtual Visit. If your provider thinks you need a more care, they can schedule an in-person appointment or will refer you to the ER.
