Grendel cast has been announced. I think the closest equivalent to Grendel as a "gentleman criminal" might be Fantomas or a Moriarty if he had been the main character instead of a retconned foil. I feel he kills far too many people to be an Arsène Lupin.
“Grendel” Series in the Works at Netflix
Netflix has greenlit a new series based on Matt Wagner’s Dark Horse comic Grendel. The series will star Abubakr Ali (Hunter Rose / Grendel), Brittany Allen (Annabelle Wright), Julian Black Antelope (Argent), Kevin Corrigan (Barry Palumbo), Emma Ho (Stacy Palumbo), Andy Mientus (Larry Stohler), Jaime Ray Newman (Jocasta Rose), Erik Palladino (Teddy Ciccone), and Madeline Zima (Liz Sparks). Andrew Dabb serves as writer and showrunner. Wagner, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, and Chris Tongue serve as executive producers.
Per Netflix, “Grendel follows Hunter Rose, a gifted fencer, writer and assassin as, seeking to avenge the death of a lost love, he goes to war with New York's criminal underworld, only to realize...why beat them, when you can join them?”
