Boston Fleet Players as Hate Comments
A little late on this one but here it is, game today at the Bell Centre. Loving how filled the arena is. Let’s go fleet!
What if I fall in love with every woman of the Boston team? What then?
YEAH WE DO HAVE AWESOME GOALIES. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. I WILL MISS FRANKEL BUT IM V EXCITED FOR MY GIRLIES
2 for 1 goalie pic!
how much of a problem does Boston have wrt goalies now that peslarová and sodes, both excellent backups, are gone and thiele is most likely #3? are they going to overwork frankel again?
To answer the last question first… I actually don’t think so. Courtney Kessel was the one who kept throwing Aerin to the wolves, and Kess isn’t running the show anymore. Frankel is still the obvious 1G, but I’d expect the Fleet to give her the same amount of rest that ARD has gotten the last two years (injury notwithstanding).
I think that Levy is likely the 2G, if only because the Fleet went out of their way to sign her before the draft. Which means they looked at the draft pool, were underwhelmed, and decided to get backup elsewhere. She and Thiele should both get a fair shake in training camp, but I am skeptical of how Thiele adjusts.
That last part is not me being a bitch (although bitchiness is one of my favorite things!), but looking at previous patterns. Söderberg, a very competent goalie at Duluth with significant senior national team experience, had a ROUGH time adjusting to the backup role. In many ways, backup goalies and backup catchers have harder jobs than the starters, because you can’t get settled very well if you play once a week. Thiele has had a much worse college trajectory than Soda — her SV% dropped every year, from .941 in her first year as a starter to .887 (!!) this past season — and she’s only ever played internationally against kids her own age.
