What's your opinion on episode 14's finale (I say while punching a hole in some drywall)

My initial reaction was pretty much “WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED”

I’ll start with what I liked first. Even though I wasn’t expecting it, the whole thing with Dark Enchantress transforming into whatever the hell this thing is was actually really cool. The animation was amazing

Also. I fear she has genuinely lost it. Like what are you DOING

I also really like the eldritch horror route they’re going, I just hope that they fully commit to it.

The reveal that DE has the souls of multiple cookies kinda makes sense, she definitely did not act like just an evil version of WL.

Honestly, I’m glad the Ancients and Beasts are mostly out of commission now because that means they’ll HAVE to focus on Bravetrio. All the Soul Jams are powerless and the Beasts are literally frozen, they’re not gonna be able to do much.

Now for what I didn’t really like.

I don’t think it was long enough to warrant the wait. Now don’t get me wrong, I think it was a good idea to release it separately from the rest of the update (and Friday the 13th doesn’t happen that often). We did need some time to process all the other stuff that happened before the finale, but the ending was just too short for me to be able to fully say it was worth it. They could have easily made it a bit longer, which would solve some other problems that I’ll get into.

Mainly, WHERE THE HELL WAS THE TRIO? GINGERBRAVE SPECIFICALLY??

Maybe I was just being delusional, but I was SO SURE that the finale was gonna have something happen to GingerBrave. There was the scene with Venom Dough, there was all the trailers, the oven, it looked like it was gonna happen then! But he didn’t even get a SINGLE LINE??

Devsis keeps faking us out with the GingerBrave content istg… first with the last update only giving him like eleven lines, then this update obviously setting something up but not delivering on it, and him not even having a line in the finale? Now they only have ONE episode to turn Brave into TUC, let his arc play out, have WL be relevant, turn Brave back to normal, AND defeat DE, so I’m slightly hesitant to believe they’ll be able to do it properly. (Although there is a possibility that some crazy timeline stuff happens and it takes longer)

Like, none of the members of the trio said ANYTHING even though they were right in front of DE while she was monologuing? GingerBrave of all characters absolutely would have interrupted her! The three of them would have at least had some kind of reaction! I didn’t know they were even there until the animated section played. Also, WHEN DID WIZARD COOKIE GET THERE???

I’ve been noticing inconsistencies like that throughout the last two or so episodes. A character will be in one place, and then suddenly appear in an animation somewhere else. A prime example of this would be when Pure Vanilla was in the Shadow Milk animation at the end of ep 13. In the cutscene he’s on the ground/front lines with the other ancients, but both before and after that cutscene he’s ON HIS AIRSHIP. How did he get there suddenly? When? Why?

Devsis, one small question: HOW THE FUCK DID NO ONE NOTICE THIS? You’re telling me that not a SINGLE CHARACTER picked up on the “born to be eaten” part of this sentence? No one was alarmed by the character who has seen the truth of their creation casually talking about being made to be eaten???? Did they just not fucking hear her? How was this not brought up?

The last two episodes as a whole feel rushed pacing-wise, which is starting to get on my nerves. Also, Shadow Milk has been getting such a disproportionate amount of content. He got the focus for so long this episode, and a whole ass monologue in the finale. While I did kind of like the monologue and do think it was good to have a part where the Beasts question the intention of the Witches, IT SHOULDN’T HAVE JUST BEEN HIM. What did Burning Spice think? Mystic Flour? Eternal Sugar? Hell, what were the ANCIENTS thinking? They were also under the impression that the Witches sealed the Beasts away!

The monologue was just too long; if it was going to justify its own length, it needed more characters. The time spent on further spotlighting SMC should have been given to other characters.

Another question: WHAT THE HELL IS SILENT SALT DOING?? Like I get that he wants his revenge, but he practically handed all five of the Beasts’ Soul Jams over with no resistance. What the fuck is his plan here cuz I’m HOPING he has one

Also, WHERE THE FUCK IS WHITE LILY. GIRL. IF YOU’RE PLANNING ON MAKING SOME DRAMATIC SELF-SACRIFICE YOU BETTER HURRY THE HELL UP THE APOCALYPSE IS KINDA STARTING

It’s the fact that NO ONE IS SURPRISED. The fact that this knowledge wasn’t known and was the CATALYST FOR THE ENTIRE STORY and they NEVER ACTUALLY REVEALED IT. We don’t even know if they retconned it entirely or had the most important reveal in the ENTIRE GAME happen offscreen WITHOUT EVEN TELLING THE VIEWER. And the thing is they KEEP doing this. First they don’t give GingerBrave any PTSD from the oven or Witch, and then have him casually mention that he escaped the oven DESPITE THE FACT that up to this point he has gone out of his way to lie in order to hide this information. Strawberry has NEVER told anyone about this aside from the start of the game, and now with no explanation, she’s openly speaking about it and nobody’s batting an eye?!

Pure Vanilla has been SHOWN to have worshipped the Witches in the past, and it was shown as recently as Beast-Yeast episode 14 that he still didn’t know. Even SHADOW MILK (former FOUNT OF KNOWLEDGE) and THE BEASTS don’t know. The entire first arc hinged on this forbidden information about the Witches. And it was never revealed by Dark Enchantress or White Lily, and now every character somehow knows and doesn’t have a problem. As if this isn’t worldview-shattering information. As if this revelation isn’t the most horrifying thing anyone could learn about the deities they have worshipped their entire lives.

Imagine you’re religious, and suddenly find out that without a doubt, the gods you worship created you as food. Not for sustenance, not even as a delicacy, just a silly little sweet treat. I don’t think you could EVER refer to that information casually for as long as you live, let alone presumably only a few weeks after finding out. ESPECIALLY when you’re on your way to where said gods reside.

One of the things that drew me to Bravetrio as characters and cookie run as a franchise was this exact information. It’s SUCH an interesting concept to have a society of characters worshipping gods than unbeknownst to them made them to eat them. Child characters who have witnessed this information FIRSTHAND and then been forced to stay quiet about it and go along with the popular narrative that Witches are good for the sake of everyone else’s sanity and peace of mind are INTERESTING! That’s why I fell in love with these characters, the concept is incredible and I’ve never seen another piece of media that has something like this.

And they wasted all that potential, retconned all that worldbuilding and information and events OFFSCREEN.

I wanted to see them reveal it SO BAD, to see everyone’s reactions, how it went, who did it and why, and what the trio would do after their secret was blown wide open.

But Devsis never delivered, and is pretending that they never promised the viewer that they would. When you have a setup like act one created, it communicates to the audience that this information will be revealed, especially since it was Dark Enchantress’s ENTIRE MOTIVATION. And she somehow never revealed it in the finale.

THIS is why I don’t like devsis’s new writing. They’re taking away so much of what makes them interesting characters, and harming other characters in the process. Because if everyone knows this about the Witches, how the hell do explain White Lily’s reaction at the banquet? Was she just stupid or something? And you could argue that they learned it after the finale, BUT WE WEREN’T SHOWN THAT. WE CAN’T KNOW. Because the writing is BAD. This was a conversation that deserved to be on screen.

I feel like I’m starting to talk in circles now, so I’ll end my rant here, but good god Devsis has ruined possibly their best plot point. It makes me really sad.

These stupid waymo cars are PISSING ME OFF. They’ve been showing up more and more where I live and omgggg go die I hate them. Every morning when I’m going to the bus there’s like 20 of them in a row just driving through my neighborhood and they don’t even have any fucking passengers! They’re just congregating at an apartment building at the end of the street and sitting there for no reason I hate those things
