He painted her cheeks red with blood but without hurting her. It was a glance of him that made the blood rush to her cheeks. And it formed a beautiful painting for which he got the credit.

Reminiscence

Dreaming… Sparrow was dreaming again. Not any dream; a cut throat nightmare. It was slid over her eyes by an instant criminal: burgundy and velvet. Blindfolded… Manifesting it formed a Eurasian swift and taught her to breathe the sky. Nothing prepared her for the fall. Sparrow was dreaming again. Not any dream; a starless sky. A dark horse: a night-mare had chased away the stars. The chemistry of her blood felt blotchy, like the rivers in her veins turned tides of ink. Another whiskey that promised to out-bleed you white.                            She did not dare to open her eyes. Sparrow forced herself to re-live the film. The dream was a thief. She could not recall it- he left without a trace. It left no feather, not clue, no track but a memory. The euphoria of it alone was the seed to her undoing. She had tried to cut it out but it had buried itself deep.  But this time: time froze...

what it’s mine to share? besides the scars on my body, a bitter taste in my mouth, and the aching of my bones (feeling one hundred years old)?

probably nothing that’s worth to be mentioned

probably nothing that can make me step away from the wall that i am constantly leaning against, probably nothing that would help me find the voice inside of my throat, to save me from the caged silence i threw myself in (years and years ago)

i am not stupid enough, maybe stupid isn’t the word, but you know

i am not naive enough to believe: “darling, my love will save you”

but i am sad enough to wish to listen: “darling, my love won’t save you, but it’s okay to fall” (r.)

I think my heart is beating differently. It must be. I’ve been listening to my heart for days now. It starts normal and steady. It lovingly beats to the sound of my mother’s voice, to worn out sneakers on concrete, to the yellowness of the sun beaming down on me. Warmth fills me and those days my head can be seen looking towards the sky. Then that’s when it happens. My heart takes a different beat. The sky cries above and everything feels like everything. The world lifts its pain from its shoulder and throws it onto me. The pain lives in me and there is no other choice then to endure it because I cannot seem to catch my breath, because the sky is now crying in me, because a part of me believes I deserve everything that is happening to me. Do I deserve this? Do I deserve all this agony? I am so very tired and I feel worthless. So, yes, my heart is beating differently. It’s breaking. It’s breaking for me. And every day, constantly offbeat, it breaks for me.
